Re: Honda's new heart. A 1.6 Diesel

Better late than never. Well done Honda

I always had a gut feel that the price reductions for the City were not for stock clearance. I am sure it was for bringing the Diesel.

Honda: Please bring it fast and atleast showcase it at the Auto Exhibition at New Delhi.

Re: Honda to focus on diesel engines, small compact cars for India

Aren't the dream earth series only petrol engines? And I hope the 1.6L Diesel comes in different state of tunes in City & Civic, the FGT producing 120bhp in City and a VGT producing 150bhp (?) in the Civic.

Re: Honda's new heart. A 1.6 Diesel

Wonderful! Honda finally has a diesel for India.

Of the 6 cars it has in India, 4 cars which desperately need a diesel : Brio, Jazz, City and Civic.

The 1.6 might just fit in City and Civic both; but what do Brio and Jazz get? A 1.6 diesel Jazz will of course be extremely orgasmic!

Re: Honda's new heart. A 1.6 Diesel

Oh I can't even imagine what this engine would do to the Jazz's sales figures. Even if Honda price it at 8 lakhs, it's going to sell. In fact, 8 lakhs is going to be a great price for a 1.6 diesel Jazz.

Although I don't see this happening. I'm assuming this 1.6 will find its way into the Civic and a detuned version of the same should be found in the City, some time soon. Honda would do a great job if they reduce the capacity of this motor and plonk it into the Brio. It would be such a hit!

This is a great move by Honda.

This could very well be the light at the end of the tunnel. The silver lining in the sky that they desperately need.

They must introduce the 2.2 diesel in both, the Accord and the CRV, and begin to localize both of them. This would bring the prices down drastically, and Honda would be competing with the likes of Hyundai and Maruti for the top-spot in market-share, if all goes well.

Re: Honda's new heart. A 1.6 Diesel

A great relief for potential Honda buyers (who are fuel bill concerned too).
Honda seems to regain its top position back with diesel.
Price cut in diesel variants of Vento, Verna and Fiesta will follow.

Honda Diesel will not be that appetizing from the Price POV for sure. But another level of refinement can be expected - my personal opinion.

Hold your horses guys about this engine getting into the Jazz, Brio etc..

I feel when it comes, it will go into the Civic first before the City. And Jazz ? Are you crazy ? Honda is not FIAT. Knowing Honda, it should be clear that whatever best comes will go into the premium segments only. If they can bring a 1.2 ltr diesel engine, that might go into Jazz etc., even then ?

Re: Honda 1.6 Ltr Diesel Engine Revealed !!

Good for Honda. The engine though will be introduced in europe in late 2012, so no confirmation yet on when it'll hit the indian market.

Is it just me or is 1.6ltr a little less for the likes of a Civic ? I mean the City will do just fine with the 1.6 ltr engine and will be on-par with cars like Vento, Verna etc. The Civic competes with cars like Cruze, Laura, upcoming Elantra which have a 2 ltr engine delivering higher power and torque figures. It's too early to say if it will be sufficient for the Civic or no, but surely from the specs and compared to the competition it looks a little underpowered on paper.

Civic in diesel will surely rule the market once launched, the city may become a Swift beater in waiting periods. If they bring in the 2.2 ltr in the accord, will surely consider it

EDIT: It makes peak torque at 2k rpm, just like the DDIS in Swift, will there be a issue with turbo lag ?

My guess is that this engine is likely to be used on the updated Jazz. Honda might bring out bigger diesel engines by then for it's sedans. First things first, what happened to the diesel CRV?

Re: Honda 1.6 Ltr Diesel Engine Revealed !!

If Honda has developed the diesel powertrain, i hope they have simultaneously made arrangements for localizing the parts of the unit in India, otherwise it would again be a no show like the Jazz. Praying that Honda would get it right this time !

Re: Honda to focus on diesel engines, small compact cars for India

Jazz and Brio still seems to be a distant dream, may be by 2013 end or 2014.
But surely Civic and City will get a new heart by 2012 end.
I am in line for diesel civic.

Don't you worry mate. Just like most of the diesel car manufacturers in India, Honda will also put a diesel particulate filter, and make their engines as efficient as possible. Compared to other manufacturers, Honda concentrate a bit more on environmental factors, don't they? (I feel so because, all their Indian cars too are E10 compatible, which won't be required for another ten years at least. Moreover, they invest in petrol-electric hybrids.)

Whatever that contributes to smog and particulate matter does not come from new age diesel engines. It comes from (heavy) vehicles which have no DPF and whose catalytic converters have stopped working since ten years.
