re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

XUV should be the undisputed winner. Apart from the looks, I have got absolutely nothing against it. I might be in the minority here, but as long as its looks remain as it is, I don't see myself in one

I voted for Xuv 500. No doubts about this one. This car straight away appeals to your heart and head at once. Also, a great effort by Mahindra, so this one truly deserves to be the car of the year.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

For me it is the new Hyundai Verna. A thoroughly modern looking sedan that instantly charms, and a list of features from segments twice the price point. Verna is simply redefining the segment, so much so that the long established leader, the fabulous City, has finally been dethroned (something that nobody could do earlier).

The kind of response it has got will go a long way towards building Hyundai's confidence with thinking about bringing here more of their new-gen cars like the new i30, i45, Sonata, Elantra etc.

Voted for Verna, but honestly not surprised to see so many votes for XUV. It will wins the race by leaps and bounds for sure.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

It could have been a more closely fought battle, if only a certain Five-Double-O ("Licensed To Thrill" XUV) hadn't been launched this year. And in that case, my vote would have gone to the "fluidic" Verna in the blink of an eye.

As it stands, the Double-O gets mine - for being the complete blockbuster entertainer, just like it's namesake-in-Hollywood's films. Hot looks, hot gadgets, sleek, sizzling and sexy. "Fultu paisa vasool!"

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

For me it's a tossup between the XUV and the new Swift (Diesel). I voted for the Swift because it's more relevant to a greater percentage of the population.

Rather than get caught up with an analysis of each car's pros and cons, my belief is that both these vehicles are the overall benchmarks in their segments. Yes, some of their competitors might score higher on one or two parameters (like the i20 scoring over the Swift in terms of interior space and perhaps NVH), but in my opinion overall both these cars are the overall benchmarks in their categories, which is why they get my vote.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

Although the XUV5oo seems to be the runaway success, there are two reasons I am not voting for it. One, Mahindra still needs to sort out the electricals/electronics. Two, I am not an SUV/MUV fan.

My vote goes to Brio, for giving us a potential hot hatch, a void left by Zen that has not been filled by anyone.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

For me, the list goes like this :--
1) XUV 500 ( The winner )
2) Volvo S60 ( Runners-up)
3) Swift
3) Verna
4) Eon

The S60 would have done better had it been tuned for Indian conditions. Just look at the safety features Volvo offers which are not only segment first, but probably industry first ( Indian automobile industry ) !!

Well my vote goes for Maruti Swift - the same successful formula now with improved looks. It is the diesel variant which has made this car so successful.

Other than this my other favorite car is Mahindra XUV 5OO. Its look is just fabulous along with the price tag.

PS - There is no doubt that the TCOY 2011 will be Mahindra XUV 5OO.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

I have a simple way of choosing the Car of the Year- would I vote for it with my wallet as well? Last year was simple for me: the Vento was the winner in both polls!

This year's contenders left me cold for the most part except the XUV500. It is quite possibly the most perfect value proposition that has hit the Indian auto market in recent times. The spot-on pricing is the icing on the cake. I am just waiting for reports that the electronics are stable and perhaps an AT version to be launched before I seriously consider adding this to the garage!

The Swift would have been a good COTY except that Suzuki's strategy of incremental rather than radical change is a little too conservative for my taste. The small cars- Eon, Brio etc. left me cold for some reason.

At the other end of the scale, the A6 is something I would vote for with my wallet (provided it gets thick enough ) Audi is doing all the right things in India, if you ask me. Taking on BMW and Benz at their own game is no picnic but they are doing it in style!

My vote goes for the Skoda Rapid. It is the game changer in the 10 lac sedan segment and makes other (including Volkswagen) think whether they have positioned their product rightly.

I also love the fact that they bought in automatic for 2 variants unlike others.
