Here is how the comparative pricing will look like. Sorry Aditya116 for using your table hope you don't mind. I have compared models by features rather than names

A bit confusing. According to them, there are no changes to the T-Jet variant. Does that mean that the upgrades like rain sensing wipers and all gets into the diesel variants and 1.4 NA petrol models. Does this effectively mean that other variants now have better kit than the T-Jet?
The article also mentions that there might be further changes to the cars later on in the year. I dont think these guys have any credible info. Why would Fiat refresh their cars and then change them again in a span of 12 months or less.

The photo of the Linea put up looks accurate enough though thanks to the EXTRA ground clearance. No pull-grab type handles still and the car looks too jacked up with exposed wheel arches

Quite possible. From my earlier sources, T-Jet and GP 90HP will get upgrades in March. Still, let us wait for the clarity from Fiat.

re: Fiat Linea & Punto 2012 Models - Now Launched

My excel of price comparision of whatever info we have till now.
Based on the features I've placed the variants in the respective cells.

Note:I've taken the numbers from the screen shots posted by me earlier.
So there might be some errors because of the low resolution.

Edit: After posting, I saw vikranj has already given this info

re: Fiat Linea & Punto 2012 Models - Now Launched

I feel the GC will be more like 170 mm, at 190 mm it will qualify for 'cross over' category. I think going for the T-Jet's 16 inchers automatically bumps up the GC. If the GC is going to be 190 mm as shown then it will loose its handling prowess by a big margin.

re: Fiat Linea & Punto 2012 Models - Now Launched

I find it frustating to see even hours after the so called refresh launch, the engine configuration is just not clear across the variants. Where is the 90 HP diesel variant for Punto? Will that be part of new Emotion variant?

If thats the case, its a welcome move...

re: Fiat Linea & Punto 2012 Models - Now Launched

Ok, so here are some pics I took on my way.

Punto models:
  • 1.2 petrol active
  • 1.2 petrol dynamic
  • 1.4 petrol emotion
  • 1.3 diesel active
  • 1.3 diesel dynamic
  • 1.3 diesel emotion
  • ABS on dynamic and emotion, airbags on emotion
  • brochure does not mention auto headlights and rain sensing wipers on any punto models though follow me headlamps is standard on emotion.
  • Dynamic and emotion get new interior dash colour (grey is now much lighter) and new velvety lined seat fabric. Overall feel in emotion is very refined and cozy.
  • 1.2 active and dynamic models get 195 mm GC, 1.4 petrol emotion and all 1.3 diesel models get 185mm GC.
  • Eight shades in all variants-oceanic blue, bossa nova white, tuscan wine, fox trot azure, medium grey, minimal grey which is silver, hip hop black and exotica red.
  • all variants get CD MP3 player and central locking and emotion as usual, has blue and me with USB port.
Linea 2012 variants
  • 1.4 petrol active
  • 1.4 petrol dynamic
  • 1.3 diesel active
  • 1.3 diesel dynamic
  • 1.3 diesel emotion
  • 15" alloy wheels on dynamic, 16" on emotion diesel
  • auto headlamps and rain sensing wipers on ALL variants
  • retuned engine and less NVH in both petrol and diesel linea, punto
  • 185 mm GC in all variants
  • lighter shade of beige with beige carpeting on all variants, dynamic gets new fabric design and emotion gets leather from t jet plus.
  • eight shades-oceanic blue, tuscan wine, fox trot azure, bossa nova white, bronzo scuro, sunbeam beige and silver (minimal grey).
T Jet and punto 90 hp diesel NOT launched today in 2012 range. They are subject to more upgrades and will be positioned differently (as per speculation).

re: Fiat Linea & Punto 2012 Models - Now Launched

Dont see fortunes of Fiat changing with this refresh. The biggest problem still remains in lacklustre A.S.S. and laggard diesel engine.

When compared with powerful Vento's, Rapid's & Verna's, Linea doesnt have any redeaming feature - its not powerful, its not got the brand value, its not particularly cheap & its got its association with TATA A.S.S.

Fiat should have killed the 1.4NA petrol and just had the T-Jet in petrol lineup and more importantly brought in 1.6MJD with 120+ PS power.

You can atleast cover the ugly raised stance with a side skirt. But I think it's seriously going to affect handling, irrespective of what Fiat is claiming. I was looking forward to more power. :(

Sometimes the pictures don't do justice with the actual object. I think we should wait and see the actual Punto & Linea at the showrooms first and then decide whether those gaps look odd or not?

Also do we really need such gaps to save the underbody from getting scrapped at most of the speed breakers in India? Are such gaps worth on the 2012 Italian beauties?

Cheers!

re: Fiat Linea & Punto 2012 Models - Now Launched

3 things that I'd like to say:

1. The shade of Blue looks nice. On the Punto especially.

2. Retuned Engine - hmmm... I really really hope that both the Punto and the Linea are peppier to drive now. And before anyone jumps the gun - I am a Linea MJD owner myself.

3. Point 2 brings me to my 3rd point. Given that the newer state of tune is actually good, can I get my 2011 MJD retuned from Fiat?
