Nissan Sunny "Diesel" - Rumoured to be priced at 6.6 Lacs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi)

Finally, the Nissan has announced the specs for the Sunny Diesel.

The expected launch is in January 2012. It is expected to be launched at a starting price (approx) of 6.6 Lacs (Ex Showroom, Delhi).

Quote:

Nissan created quite a good stir in the Indian auto market when it launched the Sunny. The Sunny was launched in the petrol variant with the diesel variant expected to come in about duration of 6 months. The Nissan Sunny is based on the Micra’s V platform and is powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine producing 99 PS of power @ 6000 RPM and 134 Nm @ 4000 RPM. The petrol variant returns a good fuel efficiency figure of 16.95 kmpl (ARAI certified). Now the diesel specs have been revealed much before any hints of its launch.

The specs reveal that the Nissan Sunny diesel is powered by a 1.5 Litre 4 cylinder diesel motor producing 86 PS of power @ 3750 RPM and a healthy torque of 200 Nm @ 2000 RPM. The diesel motor gets a fixed geometry turbocharger. According to media reports, Nissan is not likely to bring the diesel Sunny at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Although according to sources, the car could be launched sometime in January for a extra premium of Rs. 75,000/- to Rs, 80,000/- over the petrol variant. The petrol variant was launched at an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs. 5.78 lakhs to Rs. 7.68 lakhs. The Sunny petrol has driven up volumes for Nissan with the company registering a growth of 149% in the last monthn. With the launch of the Sunny diesel, the company is sure to make some good volumes since it is going to be a good option for the currently diesel oriented market.

If launched at this price range (6.6 L starting), it is going to change all the equations in its band (provided they also increase their network).

Cheers!

That is a very attractive price for DIESEL sedan of this size. Yet to spot a Sunny in Bangalore :-)

Whoa! That will be awesome price. Would be first in the queue to book the top end diesel (obviously after reading TeamBHP review ).

Its sold more than 1000 units in Oct and Nov just for the petrol version. Should really be on top of the chart when the diesel comes in with this price.

Maybe Renault should use the Nissan name to market their other cars like Duster.

I guess Nissan wants to be the game changer with the Sunny Diesel launch, the prices seems to be ready to set the segment on the boil. Strangely Nissan keeping the Diesel showcasing from Auto Expo 2012 is something of a disappointment, it would have been the nice platform to raise the expectations.

As per GTO's November sales charts there seems to be a drop in Sunny petrol sales for Nov month (1131 nos) from Oct month(1340 nos), how do they claim to be 149% increase in sales?

Near perfect entry level DIESEL sedan.
It has got the combination of the right ingredients.
- Space and comfort
- Good build quality inside out
- Ride quality and good handling
- Proven powertrain that is robust, efficient and torquey. More power (86 bhp) is a welcome
- Decent appeal (styling, interiors) compared to competitors.

Pricing is bang on in Dzire's territory.
Can be a gamechanger for Nissan

Sunny Diesel would bring in the volumes (but only in Metros) for Nissan if launched at this price point because a Diesel Sunny looks like a perfect sedan with everything just in right propotion; BUT, most importantly Nissan needs to expand their service network/coverage at a rapid pace otherwise they'll still see the sales going to Dzire in Non Metros.

I think this will bring cheers only to the taxi segment. Nissan made a mistake of not launching the diesel alongside the petrol at launch. There is no major interest in the product now due to the petrol siblings lacklusture performance.

The Caaarrr just got more fuel efficient and cheaper on pocket on long run.
Manza/Verito to watch out?

If the rumoured prices are true, I think the Sunny D will be a huge success for Nissan.

There is a Sunny petrol in our office parking lot and I was taken aback by its sheer size. It looks a shade smaller than the Corolla on the outside. Thats how big it is. Now add an oil burner with oodles of torque and great FE to that package. The mass market will love this very practical Nissan. They need to scale up the sales and service outlets though.

re: Nissan Sunny "Diesel" - Rumoured to be priced at 6.6 Lacs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi)

It is not clear whether this piece of information is actually from Nissan or not though motorbeam has provided the costing. Its not unusual to provide a diesel car at 6.6 lacs exshowroom delhi. Add another 30-40k for bangalore pricing and we are looking at an entry level variant at about 8.3-8.4 after tax. The higher end version hence would be hovering a little over 9 lacs in bangalore. This puts it in rapid territory rather than dzire territory.

I have driven the new swift, and its got impeccable engine performance even at 10kph in 2nd gear. the car hardly stalls. The gear shift of nissan is a bit notchy and the pull is not clean as in swift. Barring this nissan sunny scores on all other counts, including the famed space. The new swift still has some want for space compared to sunny. But maruti already has 1 lac bookings for the swift and the dZire would see atleast half as much when its launched over this month end (Christmas)

What is then left is to think of the service network and efficiency factors. If the base version comes with abs and airbags then it will be a good competition to knock out dzire Zdi, else not really. Time will tell

Even though the engine is bigger than the Dzire/ Manza, the horsese under bonnet seem to be lesser in comparision. However, the Torque is the same, 200 NM @2k RPM. So does this translate into more fuel efficiency than other models in addition to the price advantage?
Hope so. Then it would be a good option for taxi segment too, where Nissan can expect some more additional volumes.

Also, the price difference between the petrol and diesel sibblings seems to be on the lower side of 75 to 80K as mentioned earlier. This might further help in decision making for the prospect "Petrol or Diesel?" customers.

Any guess on how the new add for Caaaaaarrrr would be?

Driver, Caaaaaaaaarrrr mein Looooooonnnnng drive jaana hai. Leke aaaooo?

Joke apart, the pricing looks really attractive. I just hope the driveability in slow moving traffic is decent (no turbo lag, smooth gear shift...)

Same engine doing duty in Mirca/logan/fluence
Micra/Verito/Logan have terrific driveability thanks to near zero turbo lag.

The fluence which shares the same engine albeit more power is having some serious lag.

I hope Sunny is better.

I am not sure why you feel so. IMO 1k+ units sold per month is a good number for a new car. Especially, when it is only petrol. I am sure when the diesel comes, the numbers will go high, may even touch 2k+ per month and according to me, that can be termed as very good numbers for any car. People have already had amazing A.S.S. experiences from Nissan, so IMHO, Nissan is here to stay.
