re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

We were checking out Brio and Sundaram Honda in Chennai offered only the free insurance for S MT. Does any one of any other offer for Brio. Would it make sense to wait till mid December for additional discounts?

That's strange. At least here in Pune the dealer is clearly looking at clearing current year stocks. Hence the discount. I recently shifted residences and am somehow outside 'octroi' limits therefore got a further discount of 13000!

VW Kerala is offering Trendline TDI at 0% finance for 7 lacs, less insurance, less 30k discount, plus mudflap, mat, door/mirror color. Effective on road price is = ex-shwm 861390, tax 69011, logistics 7500 = 937901/- minus 30,000 cash disc and free insurance. So OTR is 90700. Planning to take 0% fin option too. Is this a good offer?

Looks decent. You could negotiate for waving off the handling charges too. And the 7L for 7 years?

Nope, 7L for only 3 years. Effective EMI per month will be 19500 odd for 3 years at 7L.

The SA is my cousin and per him, he has stretched this offer too far. You think they will waive off the handling charges too over top of this?? Anyways, per your suggestion, will definitely try my luck and let you know

So both VW and Skoda have launched an attractive finance scheme for 3 year period!

Just wanted to know whether this a "36 month only" period or is there some scope for chalking out a plan for a longer (say) "48 month" or "60 month" plan with a slightly higher rate of interest?

Nope, it's only for 36 months. Also, today morning the SA called up and said he goofed up on the 30,000 cash discount and it is not applicable if you are going with 0% VW Finance. So effective OTR price goes up to 937901/-.

I'm now in doubt whether to go for this scheme. I'm missing out on 30k cash discount and 20k exchange bonus. VW is basically recovering their cost by not offering 50k worth of cash discounts if you opt for their 0% finance.

Any thoughts about this?

I had another doubt regarding this 5.99% offer as to whether the interest rate is fixed or floating!

When I bought my Polo TDI, VW did offer higher tenures with higher rates of interest. And yes, these rates are fixed. Essentially, concealed discounts!

Understand that the traditional car financiers are losing a lot of business and have approached the CCI saying these are unfair practices. Take advantage while these are still around.

I dont think VW will give finance for 4/5 years but you can try. Somehow VW doesnt want to finance for more than 3 years on diesel cars. They will finance on petrol cars for 5 years.

As far as i remember, It would be a flat interest in case if it is 5.99% finance.

As far as I understand, this is a fixed rate of interest.can't be floating as the bank rates are expected to come down beginning Q1 of next year.

re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

I'm in a real dilemma here with the VW 0% finance offer. Help needed!

VW Kerala's present offer on Vento Trendline TDI without their 0% finance offer is with a 50k cash discount (20k exchange + 30k flat discount) with effective OTR of 8,88,000/-. If I go for a finance option from outside, SBT in Kerala offers 10.25% interest rate, for 5 years, my interest component will be Rs. 1,83,440/- [Assuming I'm taking 6,50,000 loan and rest as cash)

Now with VW's 0% finance, I won't get this 50k discount and the OTR will be 9,38,000 with 7lacs in finance for 3 years at 19500 per month EMI.

Gurujis out there, which is a better offer? Is 50k present discount and traditional bank loan for 5 years better or take the bait with 0% finance and forego 50k discount now? Any math pundits out there?

I'm no maths pundit but here's my take

a) With VW 0% finance

OTR - 938,000
VW Finance - 19500*36 months = 702,000
Your Contribution - 236,000

b) With bank loan @ 10.25% for 5 years

OTR - 888,000
Loan amount - 650,000
Your contribution - 238,000

Analysis

1) Your contribution in both the cases in nearly the same

2) With VW your EMI is higher by 5,500. (19500 - 14000 bank emi). Thus you end up saving 5,500 * 36 months = 198,000 in 3 years. Now the idea is to getting check if you actually benefit by saving the extra 198k in the balance 2 years. Assuming 198k earns 9% interest over the balance 2 years you still end up getting approx 35k which is lesser than the 50k discount offered by VW, which you would have lost if you went for VW finance.

Mind you interest rates are likely to have peaked and bank will only offer fixed interest rate for car loans. So you do run that risk.

In my opinion the VW finance appears more lucrative even without the 50k.

Disclaimer - This is basic back of the envelope calculation and I am not expert. Please feel free to agree or disagree.
