Is Toyota really that dumb or are they considering Indians to be idiots? Don't get me wrong here, I love the Innova and Fortuner but this is absolutely ridiculous. Toyota should really experience the taste of poor sales to keep their pricing in check. Like 55 lakhs on road (Bengaluru) wasn't enough for the Legender 4×4, they decide to hike it even more . The Legender here now costs more than most variants of their brand new LC300 in few countries. I don't want to get into discussions stating differences in taxing and the shortage leading to the hikes because I'm pretty sure Toyota makes a good chunk of profit from every car they sell and it's logical to gulp some losses rather than taking customers for a ride.
Good job and good luck Toyota!

I love how Toyota increases prices absurdly every couple of months, and the market doesn't give a damn about the increased prices. There truly must be something about Toyota's that makes them so desirable, even at absurd prices(look at the competition and the equipment they offer).

I assume Toyota doesn't sell downgraded quality cars(looking at you VW!). Just an assumption, not sure as I never visited a Toyota showroom in my life.

OT: My dad had rented a Toyota Sienna for a week when he was in the US of A for a week. He always says the Innova reminds him of the Sienna he rented back then.

Toyota doing April Fool to all Indians. Actually they doing this all year for last few years now. Ridiculous pricing.

Soon people will consider Toyota as status symbol over 3 Germans, Merc, BMW and Audi.

In the price of top end Innova one can actually buy Ertiga / XL6 and Kia Carens and may be still save some money for petrol expenses.

Instead of Fortuner, one can buy XUV700 + Nexon EV and save 10 Lakh plus money for maintenance.

I believe in some parts of India, the big T already overshadows the Big Three Germans

These logic based arguments do not appeal to the Innova/Fortuner buyer. These two cars have built a rock solid reputation of hassle-free performance and ownership which few others can match. I think most of the buyers for these cars have more or less made up their mind to purchase before walking in to the showrooms, and they will not really consider other options.

Re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

I do not think it is complicated to understand the perspective of Toyota on this. Demand continues to increase irrespective of absurd pricing (I have lost count of the number of times they increase prices in a calendar year). This coupled with the lack of any serious competition as a package or even simply excelling on any one of the areas (either in terms of reliability or in terms of offering a quality product or in terms of engine and power or in terms of comfort or in terms of features and so on) has encouraged Toyota to keep on increasing their margins. None of the pseudo MUVs or SUVs have been able to dent the segment dominated by Innova and Fortuner, respectively, which has allowed Toyota to monopolise the circumstances.

Sir I would rather say Toyota would have been dumb not to do it. It doesn't take much to realize they have total monopoly over the segments the Fortuner and the Innova compete in. As far as I can see there is no real threat to these 2 products in the foreseeable future as well. So why not milk the situation?

And why bash just Toyota? Every other manufacturer who thought they had the field to themselves have done it. Look at the Jeep Compass or the Skoda Octavia.

Re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

Yes, one of my Tata motors SA also indicated that in the next few months all automobile brands will hike prices in the range of 3-5% depending on the segment. This is majorly due to several factors :-

1) Ukraine-Russia war
2) Covid-19 rise in UK, China and South Korea
3) fluctuating exchange rates due to unstable economical factors
resulting in high input costs and shortage of supply of essential parts.

Hope this stabilizes soon and we have no more hikes this year as this one is the second for few brands after January.

Re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

Tata Motors has announced discounts of upto Rs 65,000 on the Tiago, Tigor, Harrier and Safari, Nexon and Altroz. But there are no discounts on the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and the Punch ! The discounts come at a time when car makers are hardly offering any discounts and have waiting lists for some of their models mainly due to the semiconductor chip shortage.
