It's not about reliability but the longevity of an engine that gets affected by its state of tune. The same engine that powers the Enzo Ferrari is the same engine that powers the F1 car. The F1 car's engine needs a re-build just after completion of one single race.

Acura is equally reliable as a Honda if we are talking reliability here. But if we are talking about the life of that engine (which was the point of discussion with 3 lac/4 lac km Innovas) a de-tuned Honda engine will easily outlast an Acura (with the same engine) if the Acura is tuned for outright performance.

^^^

Reliability / Longevity was used interchangeabliy by me in the context of engines running beyond 200,000 kms for: when we talk in terms of 200,000 - 400,000 kms, parts start failing and the power output decreases in time as the engine ages but that exhibits itself in terms of reliability as various components connected to and internal to the engine (water pump etc.) fail (mostly prior to an absolute issue with the power itself) though not predictability at a specific age as the usage pattern would differ.

Noticed the new Innova in the display of Ravindu Toyota on Outer Ring Road (Bangalore) yesterday. Showroom was closing for the day, so could not get a closer look

Re: A close look at the 2012 Toyota Innova facelift

My family have finally decided to buy a new Innova . I need help to decide about the model

As per dealer price list (ex showroom)
VX(8 seater) price is 12.95 Lakhs
GX(8 Seater) price is 11.06 Lakhs

For us the must have features are abs and airbags .GX model have abs and driver side airbags. We can live with out the auto climate control.
No we have 2 options

1)Buy GX , saving almost 2 lakhs and spend it on an ICE , aftermarket alloys and stanley leather seats + tire upsize in future

2) Buy Vx and use it with no accessories

Wht you guys suggest?

PS : Pardon me if I am stupid
1)Is the intercooler is fitted only on BS 4 engine ?
2)Is BS4 available in non metro cities ?

Get the VX.I deeply regret convincing dad to buy the Innova G4 instead of the V so that I could accessorize it later on when Dad wanted to get the V.There must be many more features which the VX has and the GX doesnt.

Since you must have got the brochure with the price list, what are the exact differences between the 2 variants? It will surely be more then just the Auto climate control and the extra Airbag.

Otherwise If you feel you are better off without the ICE and other OEM goodies then feel free to go for the GX. IMHO GX makes more sense since the new ICE anyways looks hideous on that dash. On the other hand if the VX has steering controls, electric ORVMs and other small but essential goodies then go for the VX. Once you get used to steering controls for the Audio and the Electrical foldable and adjustable ORVMs, you will never touch a car without these being present. So list out the differences between the two and we will be able to suggest better.

Edit: Just browsed through there website. The extra features they are offering in the VX are hardly any. Main differences I could spot were passenger airbag, ACC, ICE, Front fogs and tun indicators on the mirror apart from some minute things like wood finish and high quality fabric. I would suggest go for the GX. Its way more VFM.

There is a difference of approx 1.9L in the ex-showroom price itself, by which the difference will be more when calculating on-road prices. Since you are not into the extra features offered by the Vx variant, go ahead with the GX and spruce it up the way you want.

If you want more suggestions, I would urge you to open a thread in the what car section.

Only petrol engines are available in BS4 format in BS3 cities.

I suggest you buy the GX. The special edition grey alloys are available as genuine accessories. ACC is not a must IMO, GX has rear a/c and that is OK with my pre- facelift GX. And get rear parking sensors, or camera.

I am also going for a GX 7S. My main attraction though is the availability of that version in Super White. VX doesn't have white option, and the dealer asks for Rs. 35k for painting a VX in white.

Of these, I guess only the reverse camera is practical. The rest can be lived without if you are tight on a budget and want the Innova.

I guess it makes a lot of sense to go for GX & do a good aftermarket ICE, leather seats, reverse cam & you still will save cash!

Of the features listed in there, what you can't do after market are the following

1. Passenger airbag
2. Steering control -- you will NOT miss this, if you select your audio files while saving onto USB or while burning your disks.

3. ACC
4. MID

You could do the rest aftermarket & am sure you will save anything from 50K-1L after the mods.

In the previous versions, Toyota offered ABS & Airbags only in the VX trim & nice to see that they have started offering those in GX trim now. With respect to Stanley seats, please check whether you want to do it. A lot of people say that leather is NOT good for hot & humid climate.

The Optitron combimeter is the illumination control if I am not wrong; where you can change the light intensity of the dials on speedo console

PS:: Your location indicates that we are neighbors!

Edit:: With the saved money, you can install a good touchscreen HU & add some head rests screens too; if you like to show off! And add a Pete's box too!! You still save money on GX!
