The images show a glimpse of the new compact SUV. Seems like the next gen Jimny is on the cards.

The front looks hideous.

This SUV looks like the Gypsy has been "facelifted". Premier Rio looks better than this!

Any more info on this?

Where are the nice round headlamps gone these days???

Hope this is a competent 4x4 with power and comfort...

Jimny with a DDIS was the most logical step forward.
They do need to give some thoughts to the looks. SUVs have a very emotional appeal to Indian public.

Another DDiS! Its Raining DDiS engines at Maruti

Jimmy's door (door handle too), headlamps and ORVM seems to be inspired from the old gen WagonR!

@ the Op, what's the second set of pics? Is it from a different vehicle?

The rear looks like the first gen WagonR sans the roof rails.

the second set of pics is what Maruti will hopefully unveil at auto expo.......a new Jimny/Gypsy

First image is that of the Jimny sold in Japan, and the remaining 4 are the teasers of the new SUV released by Maruti. I just added the Jimny for a reference for the similarity in grill design.

IMO, the headlights (in the second set of pics) look very aggressive, and like them than rounded ones!

They could have just dieselised the existing Jimny and made a 4 door version of it.
Not too comfortable with the teaser pics ,only hope it's a true SUV like the present Jimny and not based on the RIII/Ritz platform.
BTW, c'mon guys,it's just the present Jimny and for those who find it hideous,search for it's videos offroading. Also it was launched way back in 1998 and still manages to be timeless design.

I think the front is not so bad and i think this is a good 7-8L diesel which will do very well. Hope it comes with the ddsi @ 7L.

So far future ~10 lac SUV/MUV lineup for 2012 looks like as follows-
1. Suzuki Jimny (facelifted and with DDiS engine)
2. Suzuki Ertiga
3. Ford Ecosport (facelifted and with Ecoboost engine)
4. Renault Duster
5. Mahindra Mini Xylo
6. Force Motors SUV (unnamed so far)
7. Facelifted Toyota Innova (Avanza in international market)
8. Tata Merlin (new Safari)
9. Ssangyong Korando (price ~10 lac?)

With some addition/deletion from above list, a whole new category seems to open in 2012.
