The new Sonata also unveiled: Hyundai India Link
New Sonata(i45)

Edit: Read somewhere that India will be used as export hub for both Sonata and Santa Fe and hence pricing might be competitive. (Pricing correction for Santa Fe too then?)

Will the Sonata go on sale soon? Looks like it has only a petrol engine. If Hyundai brings it in as CBU, then RIP Sonata. Even if they asssemble it here, will they be able to get sufficient numbers? Somehow I feel it is not worth selling this product, as Indian market does not deserve it.

Rohan, its not a petrol engine for sure as the brochure posted by Sidindica says Engine Type to be 2.4L GDI with PS being 201 @ 6300 RPM. Sonata would be an instant hit and you can expect Hyundai to play the game well as they have shown with New Hyundai Verna. They now need to fill up the Gap for a D segment cars by launching new Elantra & New Sonata.

By the looks of the features & design it surely should appeal indian consumer But thats just my point of view.

Suzuki launched a 110 cc bike and 125cc scooter 'Swish'

Auto Expo 2012: Suzuki launches two-wheelers Hayate and Swish

The Swish 125CC is a good step. Access is a great bike but the design is too plain jane. Suzuki required a nice design to go with that beautiful torquey 125CC engine. With Swish, they can bridge this gap.

The specs say GDi engine, which is a diesel. Should be good to drive, considering it's ~198 bhp (201 ps) and has a choice of 6-speed MT or AT. I saw some of these running about in Sri Lanka a few months back, looked impressive but I'll make up my mind when I see one in person. Which should be a couple of days from now.

• Audi A3
• Audi Q3
• Bajaj RE60
I think we missed the LandRover in this list. Tata is launching the LR Defender in India with the new 2.2 Ltr Diesel (Source: HT Delhi). Finally the most capable off-roader will be available in India.

GDI is Gasoline Direct Injection, also known as petrol direct injection or direct petrol injection. Therefore the new Sonata has a petrol heart and will take on Accord, Camry, Superb & Passat. Only Superb and Passat have diesel hearts at present.

Hyundai would have changed the game in D segment, had they launched it with diesel engine

I feel that Sonata, if priced correctly, would be an extremely attractive proposition. Currently the Accord, Camry etc are extremely overpriced and there is no good choice in the 18-20 lakh price range. I personally am eagerly looking forward to the new Sonata.

GDi is Gasoline Direct Injection- a direct injection petrol engine.

a 2.4 L modern Hyundai diesel would have a torque figure upwards of 400 nm!

Wow, that's great news, if genuine. The legendary defender (my favourite SUV) will be here finally. The other day me and my B-I-L were talking about the same after seeing land-rover-test-track-thread.

If it's going to be 2.2 Ltrs, then it should be with 170 bhp tune, the one displayed (I guess) in last auto expo and was rumored to be in aria. Current 140 bhp tune just won't do justice to defender.

Mini-SUV's seems to be the flavor of the season. Does MINI have a presence at the AutoExpo , as the MINI CountryMan could be one more addition though at a much higher price point.
