Coverage

• Dedicated Threads will be created for each car manufacturer present at the Auto Expo 2012.

• Important launches will get their own, independent threads.

• We've also created this new forum section for the Auto Expo, so that you can easily find the stuff you are interested in.

These steps helped maintain a focussed discussion at the last Auto Expo (in 2010).

What to Expect?

Taking from the older thread (What to expect?), here's a brief preview. Note, this list is certainly not complete, and manufacturers are known to spring a surprise or two at the last minute:

Talking about surprises, heard an unpleasant rumour that KTM Duke 200 is not going to be there in auto expo. This to me most likely means a delay in launch.

Just saw the Toyota website and see the prices of Innova(updated today) are confusing. The VX is cheaper than GX. Also Euro 4 cheaper than Euro 3 i.e. E4 VX is 1.25L cheaper than E3 VX!! Meanwhile what is the VX(M) variant? Whats different there?

Re: The Mega Auto Expo 2012 Thread : General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

this is what Ratan Tata says about Nano

NEW DELHI, Jan 5 (Reuters) - The Nano is not a flop, its creator Ratan Tata said on Thursday, but he acknowledged that his Tata Motors failed to capitalise on the early excitement surrounding the launch of the world's cheapest car.
In a wide-ranging briefing with journalists, Tata, who will retire in December as head of the Tata Group, India's biggest business house, also said the salt -to-software conglomerate had paid a price for not participating in corruption.
Four years ago Tata Motors unveiled the Nano in what was seen at the time to be a crowning achievement for the silver-haired Tata, but sales have trailed far behind early expectations following a series of setbacks.
"We never really got our act together when the 100,000 were depleted," he said, referring to the first batch of Nanos sold through a lottery system when initial demand exceeded supply.
"I don't think we were adequately ready with an advertising campaign, a dealer network," he said during a two-hour breakfast meeting with journalists on the first day of the India Auto Expo -- the same event where a euphoric Tata and his Nano stole the show four years ago.
A rising price -- the entry level Nano now costs 140,000 rupees (US$2,657), above the 100,000 rupees initially envisioned -- as well as production delays, quality concerns following two voluntary recalls, and a stigma over the car's "cheap" image have all dented demand.
"We've never pushed it as a poor man's car. We pushed it as an affordable all-weather family car. Period," said Tata, 74, who over two decades has built the Tata Group into an $83 billion conglomerate that generates two-thirds of its revenue outside of India.
While the Nano has failed to live up to expectations, Tata Motors' $2.3 billion purchase of luxury car-marker Jaguar Land Rover in 2008 has exceeded them. CLSA recently upgraded Tata Motors to outperform on the outlook for the two British brands.
"In sum, I don't consider it to be a flop. I consider that we have wasted an early opportunity," said Tata.
Tata launched a Nano that runs on compressed natural gas at the car show, but a company official said it is at least a year away from launching a diesel version, which many critics say is key to success for the Nano in a country where petrol costs 56 percent more than subsidised diesel.
The company recently rolled out a 2012 model that is more powerful, gets better mileage, and has improved suspension and steering. It has also stepped up marketing efforts and financing options, and extended dealerships to smaller towns.
"I believe that we will see a resurrection of this product as we move forward," Tata said.
Tata was speaking in his first extensive media appearance since the relatively unknown Cyrus Mistry, a family member by marriage and the son of the single largest shareholder in Tata Sons, was named in late November as the next group chairman.
Tata said the company still wants to develop a low-cost car for the European and U.S. markets, but such a car will need to be upgraded to meet safety and emissions standards and include the sorts of extras that western consumers demand.

Re: The Mega Auto Expo 2012 Thread : General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

Source: Auto Expo

"The pavilion showcases an entire spectrum of automobiles. Five specially designed zones showcase the varied offerings from the Maruti Suzuki stable. The center zone at the heart of the pavilion presents the 'Excitement' fleet: YL8, New Dzire, Mini SUV and 2 Super Bikes. Zone 1 has the 'Spirit' fleet, the widest range of family cars: Estilo, Wagon R, Ritz, Alto, A-Star and Swift. Zone 2 displays the practical 'Value' fleet: MR Wagon, Solio and Palette from Suzuki, Japan. Zone 3 with the 'Sporty' fleet is the most thrilling of the lot: Kizashi, Grand Vitara, the SX4 hatchback and SX4 Ltd. And in Zone 4 the 'Straightforward' fleet makes room for the entire family: Eeco and Omni."

YL8 (new 800) - when will it be launched at Auto Expo?

New DZire - that means current one will be replaced by the new shortened DZire? If so, it will be suicidal for Maruti - many families buy Dzire because of its huge boot space alone.

And no words about Ertiga!

New Dzire and 800?

That's awesome news

I have been long wanting to get a Dzire but hated its present looks. I'm sure that there will be two Dzires - a compact and a normal one.

New 800 might as well be the most talked about car at auto expo!

It's indeed strange that there is no mention because GTO says that this car should be Ertiga.

Waiting eagerly for new Dzire and 800!

Honda going in for the kill. First offer a 250CC bike at a significantly lower price than the Ninja and now something to tackle the R15.

DC can you stop butchering cars for a living. You ve been doing it for way to long now. And tata you "OWN" Land rover now. This means if you requested they would let you in to their production facility to show you how cars are made. A decade and this is what you ve changed in the safari. New or not this does not hold a candle to the XUV 5 double o .

Now, let's start discussing the cars please. Here's a Q to start off : Will the Ertiga create an all-new segment? 7 seater, Maruti reliability and that sweet 1.3L diesel engine?

Which cars are you really kicked about?
I am waiting to hear on these automobiles:
  • Bajaj RE60 - Most likely to create a new segment, 200cc looks very very poor by any standards, waiting to know more
  • BMW Mini. Brand & Car launch - All the Mini like cars in India about to know where their looks came from
  • Chevrolet Sail Hatchback - Is this the U-VA replacement OR will there be an ALL NEW U-VA?
  • Ford EcoSport - Ford needs to get the pricing right this time
  • Hyundai Compact SUV Concept - To be alongside the Rio and the Mini Xylo
  • Hyundai MPV Concept - Interesting to wait and watch
  • Mahindra Reva (Next-Gen) - To look good and do better
  • Maruti 800cc Tall Boy Hatchbacks (from Japan) - Is this the same as the ALL NEW 800?
  • Maruti Ertiga - It's high time, hope Maruti has restyled this one. The one showed in 2010 AutoExpo and the one captured over the last year in spyshots and elsewhere are poles apart.
  • Maruti K14 (1.4 Liter) petrol engine - The biggest petrol K-Series engine for Maruti so far
  • Maruti Suzuki SUV Concept - Will this be a mini Grand Vitara?
  • Maruti Swift Dzire – Next gen? - Hopefully this should have a lot better styling, no simple face lifting please!
  • Mercedes A-Class Concept - Finally a Merc for the common Indian?
Thanks,
C_

Wow!!! That's one more that RTR 180 man. Sweet. This year's going to be good for a bike buyer for sure. Any clue if this one comes with ABS?

Hope they have taken care of the niggles in Safari Strome. A BIG Disappointment from TATA.

If I ever plan to buy it this year, then the first change will be to modify it's crazy looking smiling front.

The pics from the you tube video. In the first pic looks like it's going to converge in the middle.

Yeah. I thought owning JLR for a couple of years now might have done Tata some good. In my opinion, this evolution of the Safari is sort of retrograde. The 2.2 Dicor looked much better than the Storme. And that's an awful name, by the way. I especially miss the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. :( Hope it's at least better under the skin!

Re: The Mega Auto Expo 2012 Thread : General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

Why the manufactures can't retain their conceptual design/appearance/apeal in original production vehicle? We saw Suzuki RIII concept years ago but original vehicle (whatever I saw so far in spy shots and renderings) is way too different, so simple and nowhere near the concept . The SUV shown by Maruti Suzuki also may appear in different avatar then their concept whenever it will actually be launched in the market. God knows then why they take so much time to actually introduce the vehicle in the market if they are just modifying their existing vehicles and recreating a different vehicle with different title.

I am excited about Renault Duster but no news so far, hope will get some news about that in upcoming days.
