Re: The Mega Auto Expo 2012 Thread : General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

Every year its the same story and the same reactions from Media and Car companies. But the result is that there is a lot of noise made but very little action taken. The problem with the event is not that the venue is not large enough. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Pragati Maidan let me tell you that its a gigantic complex. Its humanly not possible to cover up the whole complex actually in a day even if there is no crowd. The connectivity by Metro, Bus, Auto, Taxi and space for private car park is also commendable. But the problem is the planning part. You guys think Guargaon and Noida will be better venues? The event there will be a bigger case of mismanagement. The traffic situation will be absolutely chaotic.

Instead the organisers should go back to the drawing board and ask themselves why do they conduct the Auto expo? Is it an event to showcase the Various upcoming concepts in the automobile industry or a attempt to create a replica of some of those streets of Amsterdam. The ticket prices need to go up drastically if you want to filter away the unwanted leechers who right now form a large majority of the crowd. Otherwise get rid of the models . And yes the media days should be as the name suggests, for the MEDIA and not there uncles and aunts, cousins, neighbours, car cleaner, baby sitter and so on.

Even a Mahindra two-wheeler thread is there, but no dedicated Renault thread. Still waiting...

Exactly my point, if we try to see the problem minutely, the problem of crowd in inside companies stands and never outside. There is huge space outside the pavilions. Broad roads, good facilities, huge food court and restaurants, May be 100s of toilets, water benches everything.

It is ill management and ill planning of few stalls plus non restriction of people. I will always oppose increase price to crib demand, instead they should allot different days for different segment and stick to that like told my many and improve and restrict tickets and free pass distribution.

I have had this crib ever since the conception of the expo, and I was sort of concretized into avoiding general hours when at the launch of the indica, people threw kanchas(marbles) at the car.
Ive said it before,Ill say it again, you are getting more eyeballs when you have hostesses, agreed.
But a tiny percentage of these will actually be interested in cars.
In fact, these oglers keep a LARGE chunk of people actually interested in the cars(maybe prospects) away!

The point is very strong. You see for yourself who is on blame. Have you ever thought why these car companies and bike companies are appointing models who are giving such poses to be clicked. Do you think it will make their cars look more beautiful.. NO fella. They want to pull "that crowd" to their stalls which few people are cribbing upon.

The only company which didn't had a single model and was jam-packed was Harley-Davidson. People were not going there to watch models but their product. So why such cheap marketing gimmick in first place. And if they think Models increase Glamour then glamour is bound to attract crowd and that it does. The models are not there to explain you about product but to be watched just like cars. (Hehe..Just a different point of view, writing coz u asked.)

Re: The Mega Auto Expo 2012 Thread : General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

The designs which failed to impress me at the Auto Expo -
- Renault
- Peugot
- Maruti
- Hero Motocorp (lacked imagination)
- Royal Enfield
- Ford
- Chevrolet (except the Imported read not coming to India stuff)
- Mahindra Cut Outs (didn't look that good in the flesh as in the cut-out photos)
- SsangYong
- Honda Cars (seemed totally lost)

The designs which were awe inspiring
- Ducati
- Harley Davidson
- Toyota (especially Camry)
- Mahindra Reva

The designs which looked good -
- Force One
- Honda Motorcycles
- Yamaha
- Tata Safari (looked good in the flesh)
- Hyundai Sonata/Elantra (good but not exceptional like the Camry)

Couldn't get into Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Skoda & Triumph and feel all these would have made it to the awe-inspiring section.

There is something called as presentation my friend. Every brand used Actors/Actresses to endorse there product and at the launches. Why do you think they do it? To make it more presentable, garner some interest among the people and so on. But it doesn't mean they want to encourage "good for nothing" frustrated people to come into the event and create total chaos. Similarly these models are there worldwide at every auto expo. Ever watched the "Fast and the Furious series"? Ever wondered why most airlines have Girls as cabin crew and not big fat tummy guys? Its all about presentation.
But the Indian Crowd takes it to a whole new level. You will feel ashamed when you hear some of those comments passed at the stalls. And this beats the whole purpose of the Expo. So they have to devise a way of dealing with the crowd.

This is getting OT now. I understand those models are to provide glamour to the event. But they're not objects and nothing justifies the lecherous behavior shown at the show.

Mods: If this is way out of line please delete this post. I won't be posting anymore on this topic. To each his own.

Exactly me feeling!
visited the autoexpo and returned quite frustrated. Only those cars and bikes which had females accompanying them had crowds and priority for majority was to click pictures of the female models and very few were interested in the actual vehicles!
Some of the females had expressions of embarrassment and a few others were clearly irritated/frustrated at this.
Remove the female models and the auto expo will become less crowded; sad but true and unfortunate reflection on our society.

Re: The Mega Auto Expo 2012 Thread : General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

Have we got any more options for entry level automatic other than A* or i10 in this expo?
I am due to replace my santro automatic but didn't find anything good so far. Brio could have been good choice if they have one.

Is there an individual thread on Skoda?

However, apart from the Fabia Scout, I dont think there are many models to be shown. Barring the Yeti 4X2, though? Or is there something more?

I do agree with you. This is only a case of bad management. The infrastructure at pragati maidan is good. Though it is not maintained properly , but still you can't get a place like this anywhere in India let alone Delhi/NCR.

If the corporate biggies feel that it is more like a tamasha than a corporate event (Anand Mahindra), fulfill their needs and make it a more serious event. Do away with all the tamasha and cater to only the people connected with the auto industry and the true auto enthusiast.

They can also look at the way other global auto shows are managed and incorporate relevant and good practices here.

Not too much happening at the skoda pavillion. Though apart from the fabia scout there was a hot looking Fabia TSI , the RS 2000 concept, skoda rapid and the skoda superb V6.
