I for one am very happy with the arrival of the Peugeot. I feel, of all the French brands, this one has got a special bit of character.

And unlike some of the recent Renault cars, the Pug is as French as Audrey Tautou

It is a D-segment offering, internationally pitted against the likes of VW Passat and Ford Mondeo, but priced a bit lower. Taking the Superb and Passat pricing as a cue, this could be somewhere around 17-20 lakhs.

Re: SCOOP Pics : Peugeot (207, 508) spotted testing on the MH Expressway

The 508 looks like an amazing car. just checked online and it has 4 options in diesel
1.6 L HDI (112 PS)
2.0 L HDI (140 PS)
2.0 L HDI (163 PS)
2.2 L HDI (204 PS)

The 2.2l is going to be a killer hope they launch all the 4 variants , Infact i guess the 2.2lt is the same which is going to be used in the new Jaguar 2lt XF.

Great find! When launched it goes without saying that the 207 would be one of the hottest looking hatches in India!

From the Video 207 looks like a 3 door hatch. Wonder if they will modify it before they launch it india

Awesome scoop. The hatch looks similar to i20; probably a tad better than the i20 in the looks department.

Check out this news article on the Peugeot website.

Peugeot to start operations in India

The 207 is surely one hot hatch, with nice french flair.
If you watch closely...
In the Spy Video.
The Silver 207 is a three door.
Whereas the White 207 is a 5 door.

~~~
Though in India the zen carbon, if i am not mistaken. Did not really take off.
This 207 3 door looks extremely hot, sizzling even!
I think the 508 will be 20+ OTR and boy does it look good or what? Going by what I read on the UK site it seems pretty loaded too. Any idea when the launch is guys?
I highly doubt that kind of pricing, the 508 costs the same as a Skoda Laura/Octavia and even the Civic in the UK - 18-19.5k for the diesel, they may try the CBU route but that will probably leave them to a niche market.
IIRC the zen steel and carbon were export surpluses which were lapped up eagerly by consumers, and still fetch high price on the used car market.
The 207 might be the first proper 3 door hatch India is gonna get. Lets cross our fingers.
Well, the 207 came a couple of years before the i20
Even though a D-segment car, the 508 is quite competitively priced in the international market (compared to the likes of Mondeo and Passat). IMHO, it can be a game changer in the segment, if they go by the CKD route.
Peugeot got a way in making 3-door hatchbacks. But I feel they’ll get only the 5-door version to India.
Well it starts at 18k quid for the base model, and goes upto 29k quid for the fully loaded one. Now we hardly get base models over here hence my prediction on the price. The highest specced Laura in the UK goes to 26k quid.
Most probably next year-ish, that too only if they go for the CBUs.
Since they don't have a plant yet (although they are in talks with Gujarat, Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh - final decision to be taken by the 2011-end), it's pretty safe to assume that the first launch of Peugeot cars might stretch to at least 2014-15, if they plan to roll out after commencement of Indian production.
Allotment of land, designing/construction of a factory, assembly line, sourcing of components/parts, etc., will take at least 3-4 years, if not more.
I don't think anyone wants to miss out on the market now. So I highly doubt they will wait to set up a plant and then launch. Since the cars are testing I think its safe to assume they will be launched within 6 months to a year?
Most probably.
I have a hunch we will be seeing Peugeot CBUs launched next year, around the second quarter of 2012.
