Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

boy are the concepts getting wierd
everyone is apeing mitsu ( ecosport, suzuki SUV), its a pity that the company itself hardly sells cars. These concepts do Dilip Chabria proud - you heve only to go to DC design gallery to see where all the boxy lines come from or is it vice versa?
All said and done both these wannabe SUV's are a let down

These snazzy looking concepts are good for sci-fi movies but not good for 'Incredible' India.
Notice the difference between the Kizashi concept and the Maruti Suzuki Kizashi.

I think this is the reason for concept looking "half baked". Certainly a rush job with deadline (Expo) set in stone.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

Its not that easy to copy the Evoque is all I can say.

The design looks horrible to me except from some angles. The rear seats may not be that airy owing to decreasing glass area. I can't wait to see how the customer responds to this new segment of cars.

Is it so hot in Delhi? The tail lamps seems to have melted.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

I also dont think this design in any way will be carried forward to production. Personally speaking, even if they decide to push it to the market, they will be making subtle changes to it like reducing the thickness of the D pillar and changing the ugly front grill.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

Looks like a squashed Hummer with Evoque's design elements. No way they will be able to productionze this in 2012. End 2013 or 2014 will be mu guess and by that time Duster and Ecosport would have captured a good share of the market.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

The only part I like is the front, which would probably look better without the chrome on the grill. The side and real profile are just ugly.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

I am reminded of the A-Star concept from the Auto Expo 2008, a radical looking stylish hatch, with sleek LED head lamps and rear lamps was shown. Obviously I din't expect to see the LED lamps in the production version. But looking at what we now have in hand -

So my hopes for this XA alpha stays pretty low, considering that the concept itself is a bit too boxy (especially from the rear)

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

I found it to be ok, more of a concept which will never enter production. The grill looks borrowed for sure. I love the wheels though.

I still fail to understand why Maruti cannot revive the Gypsy. Tweak the suspension, add an AC and you are good to go. I am sure that will get people to notice the Gypsy again and maybe grab potential Thar buyers.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

Maruti always shows some amazing concept designs. See what the prodcution units transpire to! Dont think this one would be any different.

Even if half of this is actually taken on the production design, then they would have a decent CUV.

Re: Maruti XA Alpha Compact SUV : Auto Expo 2012

Would endorse the views expressed by others that this is heavily inspired by the Evoque. Land Rover did a pretty good job of taking the evoque from concept to production.I wonder how this will turn out when (if?) it actually makes it to production.
Was there any mention on timelines for production launch?

Hope this is true, but the way Maruti is doling out one ugly duckling after other, not much of hope is there.. BTW, is there a competition going on between mfrs for designing ugliest automobile. I am personally disappointed by the looks of launches so far. Hope to see something better in this Expo. Or is it too much to hope for?
