Yes it does look pretty butch, but look closely in the other pics and you will clearly see that this is only a wheel cover.

I think the convoy of ecosport's you encountered are same as what Daniel ( Indianautosblog reader) encountered.

He claims all are high end pertrol variants (two are 1.5 L and one 1L ecoboost).

This confirms a lot of speculations.

There will be a naturally aspirated 1.5 Ltr Engine in Petrol and only this version would get the AT Box.
The EcoBoost EcoSport will only be available in MT.

By the way, what is Ford thinking? No Excise benefits + AT box in a petrol car is a recipe for flop.
Also, the MT petrol top variant seems to have option of both the 1.5 and the EcoBoost. How will ford price it?
I will look forward to buying the EcoSport's EcoBoost version.

If you enlarge the image you can find that these are indeed wheel caps covering black steel wheel.

That's a great wheel cap design IMO. It will look very neat on the spare wheel. With so many spottings, the launch should be very near.

Sedan buyers do not want bulky SUVs but at the same time they wish they had high CG to deal with our humongous speed-breakers and crater-infested roads. Here is the answer now. And the bonus is stunning looks. Heck, it looks better than many SUVs, some notches higher. Ford, you got a winner on your hand. Price it right and you cant make enough.

Are all the cars being spotted here "petrol" versions of the Ecosport? Isn't the Ecosport diesel going to be launched along with the petrol version.

Agreed I myself was looking at Sedans to upgrade my existing hatch but this car is the one I'm most eagerly waiting before I make my choice, can't wait for it to launch.

I actually expected it to be a bit puny. But contrary to my view, it did have a decent road presence esp with the huge grill upfront and tail-mounted spare

The multiple spottings means this is close to launch. I like the Ford Kuga, and Escape, the proportions are right, some how the Ecosport proportions seems wrong.

The hatch on stilts look is not inviting, the front looks overdone and a bit toyish as does the side, the back is decent. The overall car looks and feels small. But I think this is one of those things, remember the initial reaction to the XUV, I think after launch the looks will grow on folks and this will another option in a high demand category.

More competition is good, this will be a much more modern alternative to the Duster, there is a newness about it. If Ford can get the price, handling and engine right Renault will have to rethink the constant price hikes and interior quality.

Hoping that Ford price it sensibly like Figo and not like the new Fiesta.

I have found that Gaadi.com gives unreliable info.
Also note that the CM is due to inagurate the Ecosport line in February. She was the person responsible for getting Ford to Chennai in the late 90s. So methinks they may start production, but billing dispatches will be after the CM's function.

Why do all the test mules still have the hatch opening on the Right side of the car? is this not inconvenient for us Indians?

Read in one of the posts above and in the Indianautos blog that the DCT automatic will be only mated to the 1.5 liter petrol engine and not to the 1 liter Ecoboost engine.

Can someone confirm? If it is true then that's terribly disappointing to me.
