That oval symbol on the alloy centre that threw you is probably a land rover logo. That looks like a Freelander2 - probably on its way to the JLR showroom in Worli.

Sure looks like a Freelander 2 now to me. Sorry about the error!

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

This month's Autocar India issue has carried an interview with Joe Hinrichs, President @ Ford Asia Pacific & Africa. The highlights of this interview:
1. Sub-4 metre length confirmed.
2. Aggressive pricing to be achieved by high localization.
3. High manufacturing flexibility in order to cater to a 70-80% swing in the demand for petrol or diesel engines.

The above are a couple of reasons why the launch has been delayed till Jan 2013. Lets hope Ford does not disappoint us on the pricing of the Ecosport.

Good to note that the interiors plastics are dual tone and not the same as that of the New Fiesta's dull grey ones. Not sure if these would be for the Indian version.
The parcel tray which is part of the central console protrudes into the rear leg room, that exactly what I didnt like in the Fiesta. Although the hump in the rear is smaller, the leg room wouldnt improve.

The New Fiesta, I felt had a very high localisation, but that didnt reduce the prices.

The interiors of the Fiesta are also dual tone, but as the contest is not much, it is not very much noticeable like the ones in the Ecosport.

The New Fiesta did NOT have a high degree of localisation. For example, the tyres are made in Germany; the headlights are made in Malaysia, etc.

I just hope the Ecosport is as much fun to drive as the new Fiesta. I was sooooo much impressed with its driving dynamics while driving down to Bangalore yesterday night.

visit the link and see the miraculous achievements of 1 litre ecoboost engine which is coming under the hood of New Ford Ecosport, especially the 5l/100 km(read 20km/litre) of fuel efficiency and that too while it made some world speed records in its engine class.

1.0 Litre Eco Boost Engine sets 16 World Speed Records

Good news for those who are waiting for the Ecosport with the 1.0 Litre Eco Boost Engine. Knowing Ford's marketing skills, they will make a killing with this engine.

This may be slightly off-topic here, but as the news relates to the 1.0 Litre Eco Boost, which will come with the Eco Sport, I thought of mentioning the achievements of the tiny engine.

Quote:
The recently introduced 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine by Ford, which they claim is a pocket rocket, made headlines for its fuel efficiency. Those up to date with the market know this engine is arriving on the EcoSport mini SUV launching in early 2013.

But to prove that the engine is not just fuel efficient and is also a powerhouse, Ford put it to the test and emerged with 16 Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) speed world records.

Drivers drove the Ford Focus equipped with the 1.0L Ecoboost engine that generated 125PS of power, including World Rally Championships star Jari-Matti Latvala and set the records at the CERAM test circuit in Mortefontaine, France, over a two-day period.

The tests were carried under the supervision of a Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA) steward. All records were subject to Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) homologation in Category B (series production cars), Group 1 (4-stroke engine), Class 5 (with engines of between 850-1,000cc).

RECORD - AVERAGE SPEED
Solid start 1 kilometre - 113.522 km / h
Solid start 1 mile - 79.402 mph
Flying start 1 kilometre - 176.168 km / h
Flying Start 1 mile - 108.548 mph
The highest average speed over 10 km - 172.053 km / h
The highest average speed over 100 km - 187.579 km / h
The highest average speed over 500 km - 186.793 km / h
The highest average speed over 10 miles - 110.237 mph
The highest average speed over 100 miles - 118.412 mph
The highest average speed over 1 hour - 191.056 km / h
The highest average speed over 1000 km - 164.361 km / h
The highest average speed over 500 miles - 102.656 mph
The highest average speed over 1000 miles - 103.357 mph
The highest average speed over 6 hours - 165.555 km / h
The highest average speed over 12 hours - 166.784 km / h
The highest average speed over 24 hours - 171.029 km / h

The cars have set “sub 1.0 litre class” world records.

The 125 PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost on the Focus is capable of reaching the 0-100 km/h figure in just 11.3 seconds and a top speed of 193 km/h. It delivers a fuel efficiency of 5.0 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.

A 100 PS version of the 1.0-litre engine delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency of 4.8 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 109 g/km. This is the engine which we might get to see regularly in smaller Ford cars in the future.

Ford might create a huge fan following with this new small 4 stroke, 3 cylinder engine, that will provide driver’s the enjoyment a high powered car but at the same time being easy on the wallet with great fuel economy figures.

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

The next logical step for the Ford 1.0 Ecoboost engine was to get the International Engine of the year. So, it did exactly that by comprehensively beating the 2 time champion (2009 and 2010), the VW 1.4 TSI Twincharger. Surprisingly enough, the Defending champion i.e. the 875cc Fiat Twin-Air Turbo, doesn't even feature in the top 10 this year.

More Details here:

The more I read about the Ecosport and the Ecoboost engine, the more I think that this is the ideal vehicle for our conditions. Small size, good clearance to tackle bad roads, great driving characteristics and a powerful but efficient engine.

In the Brazil video above, it looks stunning. Look at it dart about energetically. Love it!

Thanks for sharing that. No doubt it deserved to bag the International Engine of the year, given that Ford has spent 5 long years in R&D for developing this engine. Most importantly the premise on which this development has taken place is downsizing, without compromising on power or driveability, which is what the masses want. I too cannot wait for the Ecosport to be launched with this engine. Now only Ford should surprise us all pleasantly by pricing it competitively (like the XUV500), which would ease the initial penetration. Once the car has established itself & public is convinced @ how worthy the car is, they can then increase the prices marginally.

What is interesting is that Ecoboost engine has either won or come second in categories that it could participate.

1. International engine - 1st palce
2. New Engine - 1st Place
3. Sub 1 Lt engine - 1st Place
4. Green Engine - 2nd place

The only category it doesn't picture is "Performance Engine"

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

Just came across this news that the Ecosport would sport a different name in China when it is launched there later this year. The Chinese name is YiBo, 翼搏, two complicated characters that are best translated as ‘wings (of) combat’.

Price will range from 100.000 yuan to 130.000 yuan (This converts to 869,978.39 INR to 1,130,971.89 INR at current exchange rates), not very encouraging . Chinese car buyers can choose between two engines: the new 1-liter three cylinder EcoBoost with 120hp and 170nm, or a 1.5 liter four-cylinder. Transmission is a 6-speed DCT.

Further details in "carnewschina" over here --> Spy Shots: Ford Ecosport testing in China, gets a Chinese name | CarNewsChina.com - China Auto News
