Lucky you ! Your spotting seems to confirm that Ecosport is still in Tvm.
I along with fellow BHPian akhilrpmlover visited Kairali Ford Trivandrum soon after the day Ecosport was first spotted in Trivandrum. But the receptionist there just ended the conversation by saying that few test vehicles came to Tvm and has returned to Chennai. But we were quite sure that it was still in the premises.
Even though we scouted around for about half an hour in the locality we didn't succeed in seeing the vehicle in flesh.

I spotted those eco sports as well ( Trivandrum Bypass - 3 of them, convoy). They do have a very good road presence. And they are fast.

Are you sure about that?

EcoSport:

L: 4250 mm (with spare wheel)
W: 2060 mm
H: 1670 mm
WB: 2520 mm

Duster:

L: 4315 mm
W: 1822 mm
H: 1695 mm
WB: 2673 mm

While the Ecosport is substantially shorter in terms of length (6.5 cm) and marginally (2.5 cm) shorter in terms of height, it is considerably wider (20+ cm) than the Duster. The only advantage the Duster's extra length has over the EcoSport is the added boot-space (Ecosport has 360 liter boot and Duster has a 475 liter boot). In terms of rear seat space, there will be little to differentiate the two. The Duster may be more spacious but only by a few centimeters / inches.

On the road, I'm guessing the EcoSport will have similar sort of presence. The sheer width may compensate for its short length.

Could you please share the source of these specs?

This article by Autoexpress says that EcoSport has the same width as Fiesta:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/ford/fi...d-ecosport-20l

The Ford India site give the width as 1722 mm:
http://www.india.ford.com/cars/new-f...ions/spec-data

I am not sure if the article's data can be treated as definitive.
Irrespective of the actual figure, if Ford manages to carve out enough space to seat 3 average sized adults on the rear bench, I am in

While the Duster width mentioned above is spot on, the Ecosport width you have quoted above seems to be considering both the wing mirrors in open position. If you refer the China Ecosport spec sheet shared by fellow TBHPian (Bhageerath) couple of pages back, the actual width of the Ecosport is 1785mm, which is 37 mm lesser than that of the Duster. The Indian Ecosport width won't be much different.

I Agree with you. Duster its a pretty wide car already and Ecosport being so compact can never be 20cm+ wider than duster. Just the visual inspection itself clearly indicates it can never be so wide. Lets say its just perfect

Oh yes, the 2060 mm figure is with the ORVMs in the 'open' position I suppose.

I was wondering how a car could be 2060 mm wide given that some Supercars aren't that wide!

I got the specs from: http://www.autocarindia.com/Review/3...est-drive.aspx

But the underlying point that I was trying to make still stands.

The Duster is not much larger than the EcoSport. The difference is a few centimeters in terms of width and height. It is undoubtedly smaller, but not so much that it can be dismissed for the lack of presence. I mean, would you really be able to tell the 3 cm difference with the naked-eye?

The duster has a sizeable bulge on both the sides for the wheel arches, my guess is it juts out 60 - 70 mm both sides combined. The inside seating width will be much less because of that and would not be much different from ecosport. From the pictures , eco sport does not exhibit huge out of the way wheel arches.

The Ecsport(excluding the spare wheels at the back) is about 22 cm shorter than Yeti .
The width and height are nearly identical.

But i expect the road presence of EcoSport to be better thanks to the more butch SUV styling and the spare wheel at the back.

OK?

I wasn't referring to the width of the seat. The Duster cannot accommodate 3 fairly large people at the back. They will not be comfortable. The longer wheelbase and overall length will ensure more leg-room than the Ford. But how much more is the question? My guess is that it will be only marginally more.

The EcoSport also has 'rolled' wheel-arches. Maybe not as prominent as the Duster but it's certainly there.

I think three medium height (5.5 to 5.8) adults can easily fit in the rear with decent spacing. Six footers? Yes that would be a problem.

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

Folks came across this piece on information. The mini SUV was spotted by a member of I love my Ford EcoSport group in Facebook in Brazil. The car looses its tail gate mounted spare wheel. I wonder where the spare wheel might have gone, any guesses?
