Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

I read that 1 litre engine despite being of smaller capacity and minus 1 cylinder will have a higher torque(thanks to turbo charger),similar to what 1.3 litre MJD diesel engines make .

So my question will the 1 liter and 1.5 litre petrol have the same gear ratios or different?Due to the higher torque they could put a taller 5th gear.

OTR - Chennai or Kerala? I believe it will be ex showroom.

************************************************** **********************************

I am expecting a 6.49L ex showroom price at best. At that price, even Kerala will not have a 7L OTR (8% RT) I guess. Now we also need to understand that Ford's base variant will be the 1.5L petrol which does NOT get tax benefits which makes such a sweet pricing almost impossible.

My guess on the variants + price differences (NOT trims) are

1.5L petrol MT
1.5L petrol AT (MT + 75K/-)
1.0L Ecoboost (AT + 25K/-)
1.5L diesel (Ecoboost + 25/-)

This is a wild guess. Based on calculating 1.25L difference between base petrol & diesel variants and also assuming Ecoboost may not be priced at a premium over diesel in India.

You mentioned that this would be Chennai prices. So that means 10% tax and 3.2% for insurance. That means the ex-showroom ranges would be 6.1 to 8.8 (approximate figures). For me that looks like a virtual illusion. Compared to new Fiesta that is almost like 20% lesser. With just normal math, it doesn't appear to be practical. Ecoboost Engine would be costlier, so the 12% benefit which we get out of the excise duty may get nullified because of this. so both 1.5 and Ecosboost will be at the same price range

If ford can do with this pricing then well and good, but I am just dreaming about it .

I dont see why Ford would release BOTH a 1.5 petrol & 1.0 turbo petrol.. I am betting it will only one or these together with the 1.5 diesel.

Amid the launch buzz, what's not clear is if they will launch the AT with the Ecoboost engine.

Can someone confirm? It will be sad it they don't.

Cheers,

I am told the launch would happen sometime in March 2013, by the Service Advisors at the Fortune Ford Service Center here in Hyderabad.
Some of them have already been to Chennai for training on the Ecosport, and everyone have been singing praises for the Car.
Officially the bookings have not started yet , nor they are taking any unofficial booking.
Lets hope it launches in March 2013.

Ecosport is in Cochin doing the test. It's reported to cover all major cities running on various road/weather conditions to determine the mileage and vehicle durability. Here's one pic.

Though like all of us (me too) praying it to be 7-10L on-road prices, 7-10L onroad sounds too aggressive to me !!

Here in Bangalore Figo Titanium diesel sells at close to 6.5-7L so i am skeptical if Ford prices it so low. May be 7-10L ex-show room sounds reasonable !!

True. Just hoping that it will stay under 10L on road. Even I have the doubts but Ford will consider some aggressive pricing since Duster is selling just hot cakes now.

Duster sales down by 900 units last month as i read elsewhere. Could possibly be due to potential buyers waiting for ES. I would prefer to that over just a usual year end drop in sale.

Looking at the wheel mounted on the tail gate with space on either side of it, width looks promising. Why are they delaying this so much. The market is already down and they might have more heartburn with sales.

Ford Ecosport test mule has been caught in one more country- Thailand.

The article also states that Thailand will be the fourth manufacturing location for the mini SUV after Brazil, China and India.
