Agree with most of these estimates, but not the AT and Diesel.
The Fiesta AT and diesel have a difference of roughly 20 k or so. But the EcoSport 1.5 with the lower excise duty on the Diesel could actually turn out to be cheaper than the AT.

Would also be interesting to see the Variant line up. Whether base model is available in all variants, if the EcoBoost is only available in top-end(like China).
Though one thing is for sure, unlike Duster, the Petrol variants wont get a step- motherly treatment!

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

Yes looks are subjective, in my case, I like the Grand Vitara (2nd Gen), Honda CR-V (previous gen), Tucson (previous gen, except the front headlamps), the Duster, Jeeps (the Crysler ones), etc. More than SUV or non-SUV thing, I was saying that I just can't make myself like the front looks (the open mouth/gaping grill or whatever they call it). In fact, I like the Yeti's face better compared to this one :-). Of course, it will do it's job well - Ford's handling, this high tech engine (and hopefully the dual clutch GB), high GC - very very promising. Only if I had liked the looks, I would have gone for it.

In any case, I really hope they launch the EcoBoost + dual clutch AT combination. It will be smashing!!!

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

Was just checking out the boot space of the ES and stumbled upon this wise thing the designers at Ford have done to the 5th door of ES.

The plastic panel on the inside of the door has been caved in to accommodate all those XXL baggage that would otherwise stick out and prevent the doors from being shut. Quite a well thought out design!

Why the apprehension on MRF's from fellow members? Just because it is an Indian make tire?

From what experts say, the ZLO from MRF's can hold against imported tires with Indianised ingredients. What are these? Lasting long, tougher side walls & cheaper compared to foreign competition.

For the record, my Figo is equipped with ZVTV's and its close to 20K w/o a puncture & I have traveled to the worst places. No air-loss as well. My location is a giveaway BTW

Eco Sport would be a good alternative to those who want the positives of a hatch with a good GC to handle terrain. Anything more & you need to look else where. (Either at a full fledged SUV or sedan).

For some reason, these soft-roaders provide the best of both worlds & in Indian conditions, they would really suit the varied usage. My to these (Eco-Sport, Yeti, Duster & the likes)

Three engine options, two transmission options for Petrol and about 2-3 variants (trim levels) each? My guess is

1.5L petrol MT - 3 Variants
1.0L Ecoboost (1.5 MT + 50K/-) - 2 Variants
1.5L petrol AT (Ecoboost + 25K/-) - 1 Variant
1.5L diesel (1.5 AT + 25/-) - 3 - Variants

That's 9 variants!
Ford is going to have a confusing brochure for customers. Much like Duster and Verna.

On the plus side it has a potential to cover pretty much the whole 7 - 12 Lakhs spectrum (OTR).

And here is the relevant pic. Hope the Indian version too has the identical design!

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

If we check the Ford Focus pricing in UK here

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ford/focus/specs

For the exact same trim 'Titanium 5dr Hatchback' the 118Ps 1.0 Ecoboost sells for £18,615

Whereas, the 115Ps 1.6 TDCi sells for £19,965

Thats a difference of £1,350 GBP (OR ~ Rs.1.2 lac INR)

With such a substantial price difference between the 2, I don't see why Ford would bother with 2 different petrol engine options for the EcoSport in the extremely limited petrol-car market of India.

I understand that the 1.6 Diesel won't be coming in Indian EcoSport but I don't think that the 1.5 TDCi is substantially cheaper to manufacture than the 1.6 TDCi being sold in Europe.

Instead of pushing another inefficient NA Petrol engine with this car, what Ford could do instead is offer the 1.0l Ecoboost engine in the new Fiesta (or even the Classic/Figo in lower states of tune) pushing up the volumes and lowering costs for the engine itself!

The new Fiesta could do with some novelty features if it wants to do better than the 150-200 units it sells currently.

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

Hi friends,
Like every one, Im closely watching the Ford ecosport story in India. The website details on the power shift engine, traction control and hill launch assist, etc. Im having this queries. If some one has figured it out , please reply.

Is the Hill Launch assist option available on the manual trims or only limited to the AT version ? In the new fiesta, ford has provided this technology but only on the AT model !.

Traction control : Is this feature provided on all variants as basic feature ?

Mileage: Can we expect the diesel variant mileage to be near to 23 kmpl as the fiesta Diesel . Im assuming the kerb weight is almost same.

regards..

I dont expect the features to be present on the Manual variant, as these may increase the prices. As with Fiesta, they may be introducing these on the AT spec alone. Still, we have no idea if Ford may surprise with some features on the Manual variants as well. But, I really dont see such a possibility, especially because they are not much needed in our market. Traction Control too, is not much needed in our roads, as many follow the lane system as in abroad. The mileage though can be on the higher side. But, still, with the added height and shape, the mileage may drop a bit, but not by a large amount.

Do note that ES doesn't enjoy any excise duty benefits in Brazil and hence costs more than Duster. Situation could be even better here, since the ES would most likely be priced lower than Duster.

I can definitely see more numbers in favour of ES in the Indian context, considering the interiors of ES are decades ahead of Duster. The recent surveys have indicated the buying decision of Indian customers to be more influenced by the interior quality than what it used to be in the past.

A.S.S quality and 'costly spares' perception about Ford in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cites is still a concern and would be a factor that ES needs to fight out. I would probably buy an ES in Hyderabad since there are multiple options for A.S.S and hence better quality too but in Calicut, its a monopoly and some of my father's friends used to send their Fords to Cochin for service after being fed up with the experience in Calicut. I'm pretty sure I can never convince my father to go for Ford in Calicut unless they open another service outlet here and they prove to be good.

Luckily for Ford, Renault hasn't proved better in that department yet and hence the battle should still be relatively even. If they wait loo long to launch ES and end up launching it near to the Maruti XA alpha launch, that would be a huge challenge to Ford.

The vehicle closer to the camera will look bigger than the one which is away. The EcoSport cannot be as huge as the CRV, which is very understandable. Please keep the expectations with regard to size in check. That is what trounced the Fusion even though that one was ahead of its time for the market.
