Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Mod Note : Team-BHP's Tata Safari Storme Review has been uploaded at this link. Please continue the discussion on the new thread. Thanks!

Safari looks are now toned down. More "gentleman" than "dude in torn jeans + boots". Not everyone will like:

I like the rear end treatment way more than the front. Spare wheel is no longer mounted on the tail-gate though. Takes away from that "propah-SUV" feeling:

Low beam projectors:

New bumper & Fog lamps:

Trapezoidal exhaust; note that the Safari gets dual-exhaust tips (one on each side ):

Bonnet light has disappeared:

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Did you say the new Safari is toned down? Well, here’s one tastefully done up example that is so in-your-face that it will scare you! 5 stars to the front end treatment. I particular love visiting Tata & Mahindra stalls because the enthusiasts in these companies showcase one-off variants that they have personally worked on. The pride is obvious, and its unfortunate that most of these beauties remain one-offs only. Wait for the full report on the Tata stall, lotsa exciting variants of everyday cars coming up:

ARB bumpers? Yep:

Snorkel? Check

Why are Tata & Mahindra such fans of Hankook? Nevertheless, great alloys and just the right size of rubber:

Classy matt finish cladding:

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Interiors have a long list of improvements, but most of them are too subtle for the non-Safari owner to even notice. Luckily, I had TSK1979 giving me company during the Safari visit:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-1.jpg

Dash plastics have improved. TSK says its more "car like" now:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-2.jpg

Rotary controls for the air-conditioner are nice to use:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-3.jpg

Notice the 4x4 rotary control knob (bottom right-hand-side of the gear lever). Also, in the Safari Storme, a CD can actually be ejected / loaded in 3rd gear (existing Safari owners will know what I'm talking about ):
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-4.jpg

Dash top gets a storage bin:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-5.jpg

Slightly changed door-pads:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-6.jpg

TSK says that the glovebox seems a tad wider, and the lining material is of far better quality than before:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-7.jpg

Cubby holes are deeper, while the cup-holders have been moved forward (ahead of the gear-lever):
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-8.jpg

Looks like the Storme gets a proper MID. Why else would there be a "Mode" button:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-9.jpg

Euro-style headlamp controls:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-10.jpg

TSK says that the rear air-con now looks properly fitted, and not like the earlier Safari’s after-market look:
Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012-interior-1-11.jpg

Only in India!! Notice the gaping hole, someone swiped the cover at the Auto Expo!

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Don't like the looks . If there was a time to buy a Safari, it is now!! Before this thing hits the showroom.

And what is that 3rd gear CD change thing you talking of,eh?

I like that analog clock; cute touche'. But the dash in total disappoints. Iam also not a great fan of the TATA steering wheel, be it any TATA product.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

What the!!!

They have completely ruined the butch looks of the Safari. I know many people who bought Safari just because they grew up admiring its looks! Its spoiled now!

What was TATA developing for all these months? This is just a minor facelift (so to speak) to have so many test mules on the road for several months!

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Looks cool to me. The interiors look just right. Nothing great but nothing out of the place either. Now the pricing will be a factor to see how this gets pitched against the competition. I have never owned a Tata ot Mahindra before but still feel that this Tata product will be better than the rest. Gut feeling

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

The fourth picture in the first post above, which shows the rear part of the vehicle. It reminds me of a caravan. When I compare this with the Eco Sport from Ford, what can I say

When will Tata get the design correctly?

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Thank you GTO for the wonderful pics. Your attention to detail are awesome! refer 'gaping hole'. Yes, such things happens only in India.

Btw, whats happening with TATA nowadays? Safari Storm'e'? You just added one 'e' to Mahindra's Storm. We know that you were running out of your vehicle pics to put it in your annual report; but never realized that you need Mahindra's help for naming your vehicle as well. :( C'mon :(

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Glued to the live updates. Fab job Team-Bhp . I quite liked the new grille, how ever the back is just not what safari is. This looks very soft. They have packed the engine bay well. I hope it does not rattle too much. And sincerely hope the quality of plastics used to be better than the old model.

The entire hype of NEW Safari has fizzled out.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

I quite like the looks of the Safari Storme. It looks more "mature" than the older generation. The interiors may have got a quality upgrade, but the central console looks rudimentary compared to the XUV5OO. The music system looks after-market. I hope Tata will price this product correctly from Day-1.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

I am NOT happy with the looks. The grill definitely is an eye sore and people who buy this may want to have an after market mesh grille installed.

I see something under the car in the "exhaust details" pic above. Is it the same cover which fell down or some one dropped it on the floor?

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Any News on variants and pricing? The rear looks like wagonr big brother, big mistake of getting spear wheel off, even the Eco sport has one.
