Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Personally speaking....extremely disappointed !! The dash is just not a dash which you are expected to see in 2012. The amby's of 90's had a better dash. I am sure some of the sensible ones will be running to TML to book the existing breed. What is wrong with the guys offering a 1 DIN HU????? The Safari migrants to XUV must be having a good time & thanking all their stars at the moment.

PS: Thank you for the pics....a true eye opener !!

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

The pics of Safari with a tent top are pretty cool. With property prices heading through the roof, a Safari one can drive as well as park and live in must be a really good investment.

Does anyone know what those bulges over the quarter glass are?!

No idea actually. Whatever I could guess about the new safari I have already written.
to sum it up

1. Updated steering - Big big change. Old safari steering had to go
2. Rear disc brakes(on some variants?)
3. Interiors get a major face lift. Looks a proper modern vehicle. No jugaad elements anywhere

Questions
1. Does it get dual mass flywheel like Aria? The people there said its old safari as far as engine and drivetrain goes
2. Is the suspension beefed up/sorted up
3. Is the engine tweaked(Aria) or old wine?

Ok. And how's the height from ground level? People find it tough using the existing one.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

@ quadra,

Its called 'Expedition',

The full name is - Tata Safari Storme Expedition edition Dicor 2.2.

Among other features it will be wider than the standard Storme to fit the additional badging.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

New Safari looks much more sedate and laid back than the good ol'Safari!
Its a definite step forward with an attempt to give a more contemporary look and feel.

Is the new look targeted with respect to gaining a stronger foothold in the European market? The softening nose to meet the new pedestrian safety standards to become mandatory in Europe? Chrome garnish at the front end looks gaudy and the entire front treatment looks more Sumo Grande'ish!
Welcome the rear end especially the sporty looking dual trapezoidal chrome silencers.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

If you add a nudge guard + some lightforce equipment to storme, you wont even see the front grill (in case you dont like it)

Look at the ARB bumpers and you will know why

Check the 1st pic on this post

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

I don't know if this has been discussed earlier: What about Airbags with all that bulky bumper. Isn't is a big safety hurdle hiding the airbag sensors? I'm sure they are not going to give all this adventure gear OE.. It would be more of a display vehicle.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

When seen in Flesh, the front seemed "inspired" from the Range Rover. Referring to the bonnet design here i.e the Front line (straightened (in chrome) with curves on the side).

Seems like the Safari designers took a cue or two from the the Rover's.

Here's a crop of the Image of the Front of the Safari Storme.

To Answer as already did before in the merlin threads long back
Questions
1. Does it get dual mass flywheel like Aria? The people there said its old safari as far as engine and drivetrain goes

## Yes

2. Is the suspension beefed up/sorted up

## Yes (hydrofoamed chassis coupled with tweaks to suspension and lower than normal 2.2 dicor height by 5mm does add value)

3. Is the engine tweaked(Aria) or old wine?

Same engine (different gear box albeit there will be minor tweaks to the ECU for sure.. otherwise how can it do 180 top speed :P

-Cheers

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

The new Safari Storme looks very good indeed. I like most of the changes and look forward to seeing this beauty on the road.

On sideline, feel nostalgic and sad that the current model Safari's days are numbered.
Think of it, she has been around for 10+ years, and many of us grew up admiring her.
As Anuj said, Old is Gold, and I for one have a lump in my throat that current Safari is going away.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

- The aero at the rear sides seem to have some air flow vents.
- The axle differential is changed
- They seem to have made some changes to suspension structure, there is abar just after the spare tyre, crossbars ??.
- Fuel tank moved to under middle left seat
- the twin Exhaust seems to have a single drum (cant see the other side)
- Cannot see the Coil springs
- the Engine shields have changed, become narrower and shorter underneath.
