Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Just today there is a price rise ranging from 5000 in lowest variant to
12000 in highest variant in current safari.

What does this indicate?

IMO:

- Firstly there doesn't seem to be a stock clearing mood for current safari
- Storme is likely to be priced further up rather than at current level by
pushing current model price to lower side.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

I think, Tata Motors is still not sure about the the exact positioning of the Safari Storme. It has become further difficult with arrival of facelifted Xylo and expected arrival of Maruti Ertiga. The launch of Safari Storme with right positioning (read price point which adds to the vehicle appeal from customer' point of view) is going to be extremely critical for Tata Motors' market share in UV. I hope their strategy team gets it right this time.

May be making room to show a "Larger" discount on the existing Safari when the Storme is launched.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Checked out the 2012 Xylo pics here:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ft-launch.html

and could not help noticing that the bonnet / headlight shape is identical to the Safari Storme (except Storme lights wrap around) - but new vertical grill of the Xylo is far better looking - more aggressive than the meek one on the storme. Someone did say that TATA succeeded in turning the Safari into an MUV, and now the Storme seems to look very much like the Xylo, even the rear. Does anyone else feel so or is it just me?

Why TATA why? All customers asked was a rattle / niggle free Safari - making a niggle free product in first shot is not TATAs strength - I would hate to see a thread - "Safari Storme - Frequent Problems and Niggles" added here.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

The facelifted Xylo is simply Mahindra preparing a struggling product for the Ertiga onslaught and it does look better than before (which isnt saying much).

The Safari is strictly a 5 seater and a major reason why you dont see them with yellow boards, parked in Taxi stands!!! Thankfully Tata has stuck to the same, with the Storme also being a 5 seater with two pointless jump seats. Its a SUV strictly aimed at private buyers.

On the other hand if people cannot differentiate between the likes of Xylo, Innova, Eeco etc... from a Tata Safari then I guess this forum might help!!!

ACI Review of the Safari Storme:

Tata Safari Storme review, test drive - Review - Autocar India

They are all gaga over the new Safari, expect it to be priced sensibly.
As per them, the interiors, ride, gearbox, & almost everything is vastly improved over the older (existing version).

Lets hope it does much better than Aria, & improves the existing model's sales numbers.

ACI review

Some important points from ACI review :-

1) The old Safari’s ladder frame chassis has been ditched for a shortened version of the same modern, ladder frame that underpins the Aria.
2) A 200mm reduction from the Aria’s 2850mm wheelbase (the Storme has the identical 2650mm wheelbase of the older Safari) has actually helped in terms of torsional rigidity and weight.
3) The hydroformed chassis of the Storme is 35kg lighter but at the same time a staggering 45 percent stiffer than the old Safari chassis.
4) Gone is the old Safari’s torsion beam front-end. It’s been replaced by the Aria’s double wishbone and MacPherson struts.
5) The steering gear is borrowed from the Aria as well and this, along with the 80mm wider track, has helped reduce the Safari’s massive 12m turning circle to a more manageable 10.8m.
6) Modifications to the G76 five-speed manual (it is now called the G76 MkII) for better refinement.
7) Armed with a new chassis and now boasting a stiffer suspension, the Safari hasn’t lost the plush ride quality that was its hallmark.
8) The high stance and large dimensions mean it still rolls considerably, but it feels more stable.
9) The gearbox the engine is mated to robs you somewhat of the driving pleasure. It isn’t the slickest or easiest to engage, though throws are relatively short and the clutch is lighter than some other SUVs we have experienced.
10) Storme now comes with disc brakes all round and is equipped with ABS. Brake feel though reminds us of having stepped in wet mud.
They feel spongy, but the Storme comes to a halt without too much drama.

What is the impact of stiffer chassis? What does this imply?

A stiffer chassis results in less flex especially when it undergoes dynamic stress, this primarily results in better handling and also improved safety.

Engineers always have to find an optimum balance between chassis stiffness, weight and cost.

Its great to see that Tata have done a good job at retaining the Safari's traditional strengths and made major improvements in departments like fit and finish, handling, interiors etc... Now for the big question, Price??!!

TATA has missed many opportunities in series especially in their Utility Vehicles. Too complascent and failed to understand and offer what the UV market customers wanted from them.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Not sure where I should be posting it but was going through the "2011 India Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study" by JD Power and interestingly the 2011 Safari is 2nd in the segment behind the Endeavor and ahead of the Fortuner and the Scorpio . Hoping things only get better with the Storme.

Here's the link J D Power India

Am eagerly waiting for some news on the Storme. No news about launch/pricing and don't even see any major pre-launch marketing campaign.

in MPV/MUV section, Tata SUMO take NO 2 spot, ahead of Scorpio/Xylo, just behind the Innova. Mahindra has only Xylo mentioned in the top list where as Maruti mentioned the most.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Auto Expo 2012

Tata Safari Storme could be launched in April | OnCars.in

Quote:
Tata Motors had unveiled the all-new 2012 Tata Safari Storme at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi, which was earlier codenamed as the Tata Safari Merlin. Now, according to our sources close to Tata Motors, the new generation Safari could be launched officially in the Indian market in April 2012. We expect the Safari Storme to carry a price tag ranging between Rs 10 and Rs 15 lakh. When launched the Storme will compete with the likes of the hot-selling XUV500 and Skoda Yeti.

The new generation 4WD Storme features new exteriors and interiors and is equipped with some new technological features. At the front, there is a new grille, projector headlamps, chrome-tipped twin exhausts, tailgate and new aerodynamic spoilers. Powering the new Storme will be a 2.2-litre 16-valve common rail (DiCOR) engine that will generate 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Electronic shift-on-the-fly allows for shifting from 2WD to 4WD even on the move.
