Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Rehaan,
Awesome coverage. In my opinion, one of the best stalls to visit. I had hoped M&M showcased AT version of XUV 500 too, though. The cutouts of engines, body of XUV is pretty innovative. Thumbs up to M&M and to you. RATED 5 stars!

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Opened this thread with minimum expectations. Surprisingly delighted with what I see! The XUV 500 cutaway is such a unique idea and well executed too.

I was hoping they'd showcase an AT XUV but I guess there's still time for that to launch. The matte grey shade is to DIE for!

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Rehaan,

Super report and pictures!

Where is the Xylo? M&M has ignored it except for the pickup version? No news about Xylo 'CS' ?

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Excellent thread Rehaan! Loved the cut away of XUV5OO Kudos to the Mahindra team. The matte finish failed to entice me, maybe in person it would look good.

I thought they might showcase the Ssangyong vehicles.

In a strange way this is true!
The average viewer looks at a XUV500 drivetrain cut-away and a Mercedes drive-train cut-away, and behold - they look virtually the same

I think the pictures represent it well enough. They probably focussed on UTILITY for the Genio rather than trying to make it look proportioned.

Really unlikely if you ask me. Matte paint jobs are a NIGHTMARE to maintain. A visitor at the Mahindra stall reached over the barrier and touched the black/grey XUV - and it left a smudge!

Drawing a parallel to what J Mays (VP for global design - Ford) said to us about the design direction future :

He said that Ford has been using "kinetic" design for a while now, and a lot of others are using similar design too. Though in future Fords we can expect a more minimal and mature design cue (which is in fact harder to do), as the "kinetic" style has become quite common.

---

Things like these usually run in circles, rather than completely linear progression. I'd imagine the same would happen for Mahindra. I don't expect the next Mahindra to be as show-y as the XUV.

I did actually get some, but when the person manning the trucks saw me taking photos he said "actually you aren't even allowed to be in the cabin, i only let you in because you're from Team-BHP"

So i have not posted the photos.

Nope, no news. See my reply on the 2nd page regarding "diluting press coverage". Also, that aside, no idea on how close those vehicles are to completion.

There was a sub-stall for Ssangyong. It will be put up in a separate thread. Same for Reva.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Thank You, Rehaan for the excellent photographs and the report. I just absolutely loved going through the cutaway pictures. What I am very very pleasantly surprised with, is the finish on the cutaway parts and the vehicle itself.

Kudos to Mahindra and thanks to you guys again.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Really liked the way XUV500 was presented the cutouts caught my eye, spent a good 10mins sifting through them.
1 question though when Bolero is said to be the highest selling MUV
Which models are we specifically talking about?
Zlx,slx,sle or DI,Plus?

Does not seem to have any external controls. Looks like a viscous coupling. Any manufacturers name on the housing? Does the owners manual say anything about its working fluid?

Thanks you Rehaan, lovely pictures and detailed description.

The cut sections of XUV were very interesting as mentioned by you plus your pictures explain them very nicely.
