No mention of it! (read as : unlikely in the near future).
EDIT: Though there are some mentions of "late 2012", i have seen no official written mention of it. (Remember how there were a few electric cars shown at the auto expo 2 years back with mentions of "launch within this year itself" - but nothing happened?)

I think a lot of companies are not offering too much at the Auto Expo for just this reason. One large announcement to get some press is enough. More than that just gets drowned and diluted in all the 1001 other auto-related announcements flooding the media that week.

This was the first question Stratos asked me too, but nope - it was not present.

If you read the Thar threads, you'll see a mention that the Thar had to be manufactured as a "7-seater" for some specific reasons that effect its final specs and price. I doubt this will be changed.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Loved the matt grey finish of the XUV. Also loved the way they have showcased the internals of the XUV.

What about Ssangyong?

I was hoping they would showcase the XUV5OO A/T & some really cool concept vehicles.

Torque split clutch details?

Still not clear how to use it in NS oriented 4x4. But looking forward to the 140/ 170 hp Scorpios. Any word on that?

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Great Photos Rehaan. The cutouts will instill confidence in the technology Mahindra is employing in their vehicles. They just need to smoothen up some harsh edges and electricals to become leaders in their segments.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Very good coverage Rehaan. Makes me wanna go visit the Expo. Yes M&M has come a long & hard way and it shows. Their stall looks so detailed. Even a non-auto fan will fall in love. The XUV cut out are amazing. M&M rocks!

I have a very happy and satisfied customer of M&M for past 7+ years.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

rehaan made for a nice read and the cut-away details of the XUV5oo made for a good read. BTW the Genio somehow looks funny with those puny looking tires and the rear overhang or maybe is it the angle of the picture ?

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Thanks Rehaan for the fantastically detailed report and superb pics.

Looks like Mahindra put in a lot of thought and effort in putting up their show. The XUV cut-out is a treat to watch.

The 2 concepts that they are working on seemed radical. Verito Electric would also be something to look forward to.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

Thanks Rehaan! Amazing report. Loved the matt colours, hope to see them in real life soon. The inside details of XUV and the cut away was just too brilliant. I also thought we would see mini Xylo launch but will need to wait for it some more time.

Re: Mahindra @ Auto Expo 2012

While Mahindra deserves all due credit for developing the marvelously designed & engineered XUV5OO I am wondering about where the design direction will go in the future.

I dont know why but the XUV5OO almost looks like the saturation point for modern futuristic ' road ready' SUV designs.

But then again, noone knows what the future holds.

this sort of conceptualization is always the first step to building any new product. it is used for the purpose of design study, user response, an exploratory new idea which might be used to get to a new product. the small scaled models are not toys but serious efforts on part of designers who pave the way for new stuff.

the design process is always an iterative one. make, break and feedback is the rule.
