re: Renault Pulse Launched

Renault is launching the petrol Pulse, a birdie just told me. The engine is likely to be a 1.2 litre unit, there will be three variants (as against the two in Diesel) and the FE is expected to be around 19kmpl.

The pricing info should be available within a day or two, with a demo car arriving by this week end at the dealer's.

Renault Pulse 2014 Edition now available!

Renault has very quietly launched the refreshed Pulse.

The changes are quite minor. No exterior changes are identifiable. The interiors get the expected changes from the Nissan Micra facelift, such as the square A/C vents, piano black finish etc.

One very welcome inclusion is that of ABS+EBD+BA on the diesel Pulse. Renault was severely criticised for omitting such an important feature, and they have finally made amends. It is available as standard on the diesel RxZ and as optional on the RxL. All the variants of the Pulse get a standard driver airbag {petrol RxE, RxL, RxZ & diesel RxL, RxL(O), RxZ} as before, and the folks at Renault have to be appreciated for this. The RxZ variants (both petrol & diesel) get 2 airbags and ABS+EBD+BA as standard.

There is also a cool new colour, Cosmos Blue:

Sadly, there is no RxZ Premium variant that is the equivalent of the Nissan Micra XV Premium (with additional side airbags, reverse camera & electro-chromic mirror). No CVT option for the Pulse either! What's more, steering mounted audio & phone controls seem to have been given the miss, as per this picture:

As before, the Pulse is priced at a slight premium over the equivalent Nissan Micra. With fewer variants, no CVT and without a couple of features (steering mounted controls, LED tail-lamps), it looks like the Pulse is going to struggle on the monthly sales charts, as usual.

It's a pity, because the badge-engineered Nissans (Pulse & Scala) are fine cars, and they should have been sales successes for the French company (along with the popular Duster).

And the Duster, too, is a rebadged Dacia car. Renault has some fine cars in its own stable -- Twingo fits in the Micra slot, and there are Clio, Megane etc -- why rebadge a Nissan when Nissan is there in India under its own name? Meanwhile, the Nissan Terrano in other countries has no connection with the Duster. They introduced the brand in India but not the car.

They haven't even bothered to move the fuel lid! In Japanese cars it's on the left, in European cars on the right, but not in this case. Renault's Duster and Fluence have it on the right, Pulse and Scala on the left. Nissan's Micra and Sunny have it on the left, Terrano on the right.

I totally don't get the strategy. Why didn't they have joint Renault-Nissan dealerships and offer customers variety, rather than separate dealerships selling basically the same cars?

I also don't get why the Pulse should be more expensive than a Micra, ie why Renault should command a price premium for fewer features. If anything Nissan is the better-known brand in India.

re: Renault Pulse Launched

Test drove the Pulse Petrol RXZ a couple of weeks back.

My initial observations:

1) Very Light(I mean Seriously light) steering.
2) The engine throttle response was not great.
3) Somehow, the car did not give that driver engagement feel at all(Like any Ford cars except the Figo)
4) Pretty cramped rear seat
5) The speedo console looked to bare bones/basic.
6) Perceived no VFM. Swift is a far more refined car in all aspects.
7) Even the Micra looks a better proposition as a large no. of features are missing in the Pulse(no steering mounted controls, no LED, No Avg. fuel etc).

re: Renault Pulse Launched

We just learned yesterday that production was halted for the Scala and Pulse...

http://www.team-bhp.com/news/renault...cala-and-pulse

Was it done to refresh the car and launch it with these features?

Re: Renault Pulse Launched

Hi Guys,

Need some information, please help. Our Pulse 1.5 D had a mishap yesterday. Bumper and Radiator took the major hit and Steering Airbag opened due to the impact. Unfortunately the insurance was expired couple of months back and it was overlooked. A great mistake and we have to accept the consequence now. The car is yet to be checked by the service center for any estimation. before that I would like to know what would be the cost of a steering wheel with Airbag for Pulse. I know it is going to cost a bomb from authorised service center. Can this be fixed from a trusted FNG ?
