I mean if Nissan can say, bring about their version of the duster with different trim levels, then it could be great! Skoda did just that, they brought in interesting variants in the Rapid{ espcially the Ambition} which were not as feature rich as the Vento, but had just the basic necessities{ABS + Driver air bag on the middle variant} that a 10 lakh buyer is looking for.

the XUV and the duster can be compared in terms of utility and pricing, but comparing the ertiga which is a so called MUV, doesnt make sense, IMO.

The pricing is not that way off, maybe it should have been closer to 10.50 for the top end.

HEH, even today Yeti IMHO should be a better option with the 2.2L discount being offerred for the top end Elegance 4x4.

Re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 L

I too do find this prices on higher side, If they would have priced it lower by 50k, I would have surely called her a VFM car, which she isn't.

Considering, this are introductory price and will shoot up by around 50k in few months, then OTR for top end diesel will be around 14L.

Then, why would anyone but duster over a rapid, vento, Heck you can get yourself the proven Innova for same price.

I don't think, anyone will buy duster over vento, rapid just for the sake of higher ground clearance.

Coming to the 4wd variant, I am sure that Renault will price it 1L over top end diesel, considering it'll come in 110hp variant. It will cost around, 15.xx L for 4wd variant, at this price point, will it be able to find buyers ?

Just waiting for our Team-BHP review, It will surely clear our most of the questions or doubts.

Cheers
Sameer

Back to pre-owned cars.
Actually no, the base 110PS version does not have have Airbags, not even as an option. You can check this on the Renault site.

Re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 L

Looks like the Duster has been priced the way Fluence is. Overpriced and underpowered. The price range between entry level petrol and top end diesel is wide enough to span two or three segments. Its a given the petrol versions will not do well. The diesel as noted by everyone is overpriced. An Innova or XUV might make more sense at this price level.

Re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 L

The pricing is other countries is much more VFM hence the success. Take France for instance, let's just compare the top 2 DCI trims; Delsey and Prestige - ABS, Airbags, alloys standard. EPS + ASR is around 350 euros extra.

We don't get EPS/ASR in India, though its being exported to UK with these features which means the UK will probably have the more advanced 1.5 with DPF (Diesel particulate filter)

Delsey 110 DCI BHP 4x2 - 16500 Euros ( Rs 1,097,000) - this includes 19.6% VAT, without VAT its 12800 Euros (Rs 878,000)

Prestige 110 DCI BHP 4x2 - 17000 Euros ( Rs 1,166,000) - this includes 19.6% VAT, without its 13600 Euros (Rs 933,000)

Less 500 euros for 90BHP DCI eco stop-start version, add 2000 euros for 4x4. 2 lower versions, Ambience and Envi which are around 1000-2000 euros less.

I am pretty much in the same boat. Came close to buying a pre-owned car. Thought of waiting to see how Duster fared.
Now, if it is indeed 75K over my budget and I go the pre-owned route and some time later I see a shiny Duster crossing me, would I be wishing (and cursing myself) to spend that extra 75K and bought a Duster instead? Or would I be glad that I didn't spend that 75K extra? That is my big question

Re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 L

I think all the buzz and hype on the pricing is now dying with the reality. Petrol will anyways not sell and I feel the diesel is off the mark by atleast 50-75k. Common Renault you could have priced the diesel at a killer price and provided an option for Ford to price the Ecosport aggressively. Looks like Ecosport has more breathing space.

I totally agree on this front, Comparing Ertiga with Duster does not make much sense. Though Duster and XUV do hold up for comparison

For me RXL 110 would have made sense if it came with Dual Airbags but now if I like Duster , I would go with RXL 85 PS with Option Pack !! and I feel Renault while doing a BATA type Pricing started well but could have done better with lesser gap of say around 50K per trim

Re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 L

Just checked the Renault Duster at Andheri West (opp Tanishq Showroom) and these are my views:
1) The plastic's on the dash are poor
2) I am about 5'11 and the seat had to be really brought back
3) This left little room for the rear seat passenger also when i tried; a protruding portion / part (sharp) of the front seat got stuck in my shoe
4) The colour (white) looked good
5) The door did not close with a thud....infact there was a thud-thud sort of a vibration there
6) The front of the car looks good
7) The rear doesnt look appealing - i feel its more on the lines of Force SUV

Could not get a test drive as there were a lot of folks who had reached there at lunch time

Worlds cheapest SUV is definitly not cheap in India!
Am happy that i dint wait for the Duster..

I think Duster will fill in the space of "Fiat Adventure", i dont see it being a threat to Safari or Scorpio..
