IAB claims inside info on "shock pricing on the Duster"
Shock pricing on the cards for the Renault Duster
Of course, one needs to wait and watch as to which way the "shock" goes - whether the prices head north or hopefully south

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

With only 31 service stations and 54 dealerships across India, can they really handle the spike they are hoping for? As quoted by IAB, A sub 6 lakh price for the petrol and a little over 7 for diesel doesn't reveal much. It could be a stripped down basic 4x2 variant. Factor in a mid variant with atleast a 50k gap and the top end diesel 4x2 comes close to 9 lkhs on road.

With the habit of manufacturers offering 4x4 only on the top-end variants, god knows where the top-end 4x4 will end up! (Maybe in the Scorp lx 4x4 range?)

I sincerely hope, they bring in a sensibly priced diesel 4x4 variant, say at 8/8.5 lakhs on road.

Lets hope Renault will provide official information in the month of July even if there is no large scale launch and TD cars. So many expectations are mounted on this car. Personally I am hoping for a proper 5 seater even if its launched at sedan level pricing.
I am sure if the car's sale takes off, more dealerships will be opened.

^^ Unfortunately, 4x4 vs. 4x2 debate runs only on forums is my sense. In real world, people will not crib for a 4x4 if 4x2 top end is available for 8-8.5lacs. It may remain a technical fact making some of the serious blokes feel sad since the 4x4 may cost 10+. Which in my opinion is still a steal.

I agree. Most of us expect reasonable city driving and good highway driving from the Duster. In reality, the need for a 4x4 is limited.
Yet, the demand for a 4x4 is valid for the enthusiast amongst us. Renault should cater to this segment too, especially with a car that seems to have good off-roading capability

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Guys, I just hope this news is true.

Duster to be launched at a Shocker Price. But the delivery of the cars will happen in August only.

Quote:
Since its re-entry into India with the Fluence, Koleos and Pulse sold through its own dealer network, the company has received a lukewarm response to its products.

Having launched 3/5 products promised by the end of 2012, the fourth is the most important of them all – a car in a segment that is virgin and with no serious competition in sight. To raise volumes and to get more customers to drive its cars, the Duster is hugely important. To ensure its chances of success are high, the company is said to be planning a shock pricing strategy similar the Nissan took with the Sunny, or Maruti took with the Ertiga which has used up all the pages of Maruti’s order book.

This translates into an introductory starting price of under 6 lakhs for the petrol variant and a little over 7 lakhs for the diesel variant. Sounds good?

Production of the Duster is expected to begin at the Oragadam plant in Chennai during July and cars may begin arriving at dealerships in August. Unlike the European Duster, the Indian model will feature the Sunny’s 1.5-liter petrol engine alongside the quintessential 1.5-liter DCI diesel engine. The top-end variant features ABS with Brake Assist & EBD, Dual front Airbags, Keyless entry and leather upholstery.

Exports to the UK will begin later this year as Dacia has announced that the Duster will be sold there starting from January 2013.

The Duster in Ferrari red looks beautiful.

I was at the Renault Showroom to collect the papers of my Fluence and the sales execs confirmed launch on 30th June and Delivery by August. They already have a backlog of orders and aren't taking any new bookings for now. They mentioned OTR Mumbai prices topping off at 11lakhs odd. Base Diesel around 7.99 ex showroom. Not sure if the information is authentic or just hearsay among the dealers.

You cant even imagine what Hyundai stats were for these when they came to India and how they scaled up once the sales caught up.

Renault's spread is much better comparitively.

Your expectations may be on the lower side. It will be priced at least on par with Ertiga, and i am guessing 4x4 will be priced higher than Zdi.

If the 4x4 will be priced between 11-12 L On road, I will consider it Well-priced.

Only hoping that the vehicle will have premium looks. Looking at the shape, I hope it doesnt seem equivalent to Logan in the looks department which will make it unattractive to private buyers.

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Ive seen many videos all over the net of the Duster going offroading. Some are videos of serious off roading. For a price bracket of that its well worth it.
It kind of reminds of a suv slated for the dakar rally. The wheel arches could gobble up even 17inchers.
Any one have any idea what the interior dimensions are, especially the behind the seond row of seats.
After fitting roof mounter lamps.roof racks.front bumper bar.etc etc.Im sure it will look really tough.
What colour do you think the Duster looks best in.
mine would be white.or grey

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

My wife is a fan of SUVs and SUV-lookalikes and a well-priced Duster is something I could look at buying somewhere down the line. I don't really have much use for the 4x4, so I'm hoping that Renault will provide a fully-loaded 4x2 version, i.e., they won't force me to buy the 4x4 version just to get a few other good features. A fully-loaded 4x2 diesel version at Ertiga ZDi prices will be good enough.

If it is priced as mentioned, It'll give a very tough time to the Xylo Mini for sure. It'll also be launched around the same time. This maybe the next Innova for that segment, which is very very capable of doing stuff off-road.
