The scorpio and safari body moulds and dies must be completely depreciated by now. Whatever these guys are charging us is pure cream for them.
About time they went in for a massive correction in pricing for both those antediluvian monsters. Or else let them provide more bang for the buck at the same price, like full ABS and safety kit and all 4 disc brakes and so on and so forth and then let them charge the same prices as current.
They really need to get responsible towards us buying public. They need to get less greedy. They need to genuinely work on offering us value.

Though I agree with the sentiments but as a Scorpio owner I would tend to take some offence with the last statement since there are people other than the mentioned categories who buy these vehicles.

The Hindu carries the review of Duster in today's edition.
The Hindu : Life & Style / Metroplus : Clean sweep!

Salient points:

The rigid chassis, meaty 215/65 R16 tyres, front MacPherson struts and a torsion bar rear suspension work in complete unison to soften the worst of blows. Even broken patches of road and cobblestone paths taken at proper highway speeds simulated on the test track do little to faze the Duster when we drive it. There are no two ways about it — the Duster is the best-riding SUV for its price.

At an estimated price of Rs. 7.2 lakh for the base petrol model, stretching to Rs. 12 lakh for the fully loaded 108bhp diesel, the Duster will be priced aggressively.

Good article.
Done and Dusted then?

I think this kind of vehicle was long overdue and will definitely create a good solid dent in this marketplace.
Why, people who have been dithering so far and who dont need a big size SUV will probably move away from the XUV itself, to consider the top spec Duster.

Me, I cant wait for it to launch, so that I can do my golf bag test in it!

Infact equally exciting (maybe even more) would be if the current players , as a consequence , do what you have mentioned above.

If they do indeed do so, I would bless them for it as would many more people. We are their own countrymen and by golly, we deserve to be treated better by our own manufacturers!
Lets see if this becomes a reality sometime soon!

sorry m_upreti. the idea was to say that GOING FORWARD, only such people might see value in a rough and tough vehicle like a SCORPIO/SAFARI and all others like you and me ( city dwellers) might see greater value in a Duster

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

From the Independent newspaper in UK (usually quite reliable!):

2WD Access (Petrol) - £8,995 - INR 8,00,000
4WD Access (Petrol) - £10,995 - INR 9,80,000
2WD Ambiance (Diesel+radio) - £11,495 - INR 10,25,000
4WD Ambiance (Diesel+radio) - £13,495 - INR 12,00,000
2WD Lauréate, (Diesel + AC, alloy wheels, MID & better trim)- £12,995 - INR 11,60,000
4WD Lauréate - £14,995 w - INR 13,35,000

All Dusters will have a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty as standard extendable to five years and 60,000 miles for £395, or seven years and 100,000 miles for £850.

No Worries, abslutely agreed with you. I would any day prefer to have a smoother vehicle, though I absolutely love my Scorpio (but still in the market to change once I see the Duster so now the choice is between the Duster & XUV500)

Yes Autocar Uk also reports the same.

Dacia Duster SUV from £8995 | Autocar

This makes the case for Renault to price the Duster very well in India considering that the Duster costs 8995 pounds including shipping and other local duties

The Duster's advertisement. I have enlarged the fuel efficiency part for 85 BHP 1.5 dCi engine. 20.45 kmpl in test conditions is pretty good and this will turn out to be around 16-17 kmpl in real world conditions.

Bring it on Renault...

Sir,

I am not a goon, politician, thug or whatever you mentioned in your earlier post and don't aspire to be one in future. Can you please advise me what I should be doing? What SUV I should be looking at in my budget of 12lakhs? I need occasional 7 seats but don't like the van looking Toyota Inova or Maruti Ertiga.

Please advice.

Yeah this will be with airbags , abs , esp ? etc to meet european regulations , hence it definitely must be much cheaper here.

If you want the bulk and road presence go for the Scorpio / Safari as those are the only ones in this range unless you have a liking for the Sumo / Bolero types.

Other wise there are no other SUV's in this range at present, you will have to wait and see how the Duster fits your bill.
