re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

From what i have been reading, Duster will come with
- an average engine
- will be a 2x2
- might not be a proper 5 seater
- paint job is questionable
- average interiors
- wafer thin service support from Renault.

Everything seems to be hovering in the average band. It definitely has no traits of an SUV.
8L for all this?
12L just to add on the ABS, airbags and gizmos? That's a huge cost delta
I see a lot of disappointment coming my way.

I wish Renault would have focused on the Duster to produce either good fit and finish or superb ride and handling or simply affordable. Not touching any of these aspects and pricing it high just because they will be first in this segment is very risky.

Please note that all the points i made were from reading the existing posts. I might be proven wrong when Duster is finally launched.

I hope you meant 4X2! Also, if the variants in the above post say that there is going to be optional safety features even on the second model, which I think is a great thing!

If for someone, the safety features do not matter much, the base model has all the frills and grills. 8L for base model I think is justified. However only time will tell if that is indeed true!

Yes, the service netwrok is really feabile right now and renault needs to pull up socks for increasing it and really fast at that. I have noticed in many places, there is not even a denting/panting workshop!

Whatever it is, I am in love with this car! right from the day there were speculations of it coming to Indian shores!

Cheers!

Yes, i did mean the 4x2 (2WD), thanks for pointing that out.
From the above list, Varient-2 + optional (ABS and Airbag) looks like the right mix. I just hope it can fit my budget of ~10.5 OR Bangalore (about 8.8 to 9L ex-showroom).
Even i have pinned all my hopes on this car. I plan to buy it (if it works out to be practical) by this year end.

what do you mean by "not a proper 5 seater" --- what info lead to this conclusion ?

on the paint quality and average interiors - what are you basing these comments on ? i didnt see any info on the quality of interiors. from the specs and pictures on the net - it looks ok for the price being discussed.

what options do you have in the market at 8L ( assuming Duster is priced there ) - other than the regular sedans ?

and the "wafer thin " service network should not be a concern if you intend to buy and run the vehicle largely in major cities/towns.

So Variant 1 does not even get AC or Power Steering? Frankly unable to understand the lack of either. In my humble opinion, it's a hard sell for a 8L vehicle without an AC; further, is it even possible to steer such a vehicle without power steering? I know the weight is very low (compared to SUV standards) but even then!

Variant 2 + ABS looks great. But can we choose the options individually or are they bundled?

i found this a little strange as my lane has a duster and a yeti both. the duster definitely looks bigger. and yes! google supports this - duster 4.31m length and yeti 4223mm. figures aside, let me assure you that duster, thanks to its muscular styling, looks definitely bigger than the yeti (facts and figures aside). btw, the CRV is longer than both these.
regarding the fit and finish, i have sat in a duster many times, the fit and finish of the europe spec model belies your claim of poor quality. but then, who knows, it may be a cost-cutting measure specific to India (I surely hope not, keeping my fingers crossed).

My Bad, I mistakenly interchanged the "driving comfort" section from Variant1 and 2. Mods, can you please interchange them.

If that is the case, I think Variant 2 will be a good option to consider. I just hope Renault prices the cars sensibly.

Any info on prices abeey4u?

Does each of Petrol and Diesel comes with all 3 variants?
I was under the impression that diesel comes with only 2 variants.
May be Variant 1 & 2 for petrol and Variants 2 & 3 for diesel? Just a guess.

I have been told the range is 7-10 and they are trying to target urban customer with two sections in mind. a. One who will be upgrading from hatch like swift etc and b. sections who will either be migrating from sedan/SUv like honda city and scorpio etc. Vehicle will be in showroom by the of june/first week of july

I am guessing all three variants will be available for both petrol and diesel. The only thing which may happen is diesel base variant comes with 85bhp engine only and top end diesel will be 110 bhp only. But again this is my guess

Seems i did a lot of mistake in trying to extract the text and copy paste into excel. I am attaching the image for the benefit of all. Sorry for creating any confusion. This should help everyone

I'm absolutely disappointed by the lack of safety features on Variant 1! Not even as an option. Plus no Power Steering?

Also, no beige option on Variant 2 at all?

Interesting. Looks like variant 2 comes with both 85 PS and 110 PS, going by the line 'ABS+EBD+BA on 100 PS'
If you give many options, then ordering a vehicle with a particular combination of these options would take time. They should make the options as a pack.
So, v1, v2, v2+pack, v3, v3+pack

V2+pack = V3. So i think they will allow individual options as well. That's what they are doing on some of the european market where they allow you to customize online

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

that Rear AC is a first. I have not seen that even as an option in any of the Duster video/specs online.
Talk abt being India friendly !

Me thinks that Renault have been closely following this thread !

Variant 2 with optionals makes the most sense. Differences b/w v2 & v3 seem cosmetic apart from the Rear Ac as an option. A nice to have option , I may add..
