re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

I find the prices on the higher side by atleast 50k, especially of base diesel which is 8 lac ex-showroom. In comparison you get fully loaded MS Ertiga @ 8.45 lac ex-showroom. Ok ok Ertiga is a MUV and Duster is SUV, but for a brand to mark its recognisation in the market, it has to dish out better prices. Only pricing products on the higher side doesnt make a brand aspirational (tata aria). The company has to prove its mettel, its worth, its reliablity, its consistency in the market (Maruti, Toyota, Hyundai), and they think that its only price game. They are playing for the second time and none of their products has clicked which includes one so called Brand Engineered Pulse, which did nothing but diluted the brand identity further. Only hope duster taste success and success only remain on the sales charts and dont enter the brand manager's brain

Renault Duster site is up. Probably, it's up from the long time. Couldn't find the price information though.

Renault - DUSTER

They have a media review page as well.

Watching the live streaming. The Duster definitely has presence. I am falling in love with the car. And pricing is not that bad. Right between premium hatchbacks and premium sedans. Renault may finally have a winner on their hands.

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

We have to pay 2 lacs over the base diesel version for ABS & other safety feature. That's ridiculous

Why can't they give just ABS as standard!!

This costs as much as the Scorpio - and considering the new scorpio is under development - i am not sure if they did right with this pricing.

Will need to check out the car in person now it see if its worth it.

There is something uncannily similar about Renault's pricing strategy for the Duster. It reflects a great deal, the pricing strategy Nissan had adopted for the Sunny.

The range spans over a 4 lakh bracket. 7.2 lakhs - 11.3 lakhs. Are they trying to kill two birds with one stone? No, three birds with two?!

It looks like they want a slice of the Scorpio's/Safari's share with their mid-level variants. A sliver of the C-segment sedan market with their premium variant offings, and may even be toying with the idea of luring some potential hatchback customers with their base-variants. I just hope they don't lose the plot in all this melee.

The marketing guy said these introductory prices and asks the customers to hurry up. That means, this prices are going up. Looks 60k to 80k higher than what I hoped for. :(

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Terribly disappointed with the stepmotherly treatment for the Petrol version. No Safety equipment even if we are willing to pay for it seems really stupid decision from Renault.
Even the delta in the RXL to RXE for petrol is just a few cosmetic changes like fabric color,Door handles etc not even Alloys provided in petrol Rxl. Basically looks like a ploy to advertize a "starting price" which is totally useless, no real user will put up with the pathetic spec and pay 7.2 or 8.2 L of hard earned money for the petrol version at least.
Specific deal breakers for me are the lack of Safety features, and no rear split seat--just a full folding bench. @GTO - No need to test drive the Petrol ;-(

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Watched the live streaming - it seems to be a great car with the right combination of ride comfort, handling, space and fuel efficiency. The pricing seems to be good. Last row seats as an option would have been great. I might get one after atleast a year based on the sales/ service of Renault.

the best variant is the 85+pack. 110 RxL does not include dual airbag, only drivers side. Has ABS though.

RxL-110hp version has ABS, but no airbags. For the same price, you can get the RXL-85hp version which also airbags+quite a few goodies extra like alloys and parking sensor.

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

I see a few issues with the pricing and options.

RXL 85 BHP (No Safety) - 8.99 - 10.5 lakhs OTR
RXL 85 BHP with ABS, EBD, Airbags - 9.99 - 11.5 lakhs OTR

RXL 110 BHP (No Airbags) - 9.99 - 11.5 lakhs plus OTR
RXZ 110 BHP with Airbags - 10.99 - 13 lakhs plus OTR

The RXL 110 bhp without Airbags is a huge question mark, it remains to be seen whether consumers will pay 11.5 for a car without Airbags in 2012, or they have to go to RXZ and pay 13 lakhs OTR for a so called value buy. This may not sit well.

The whole philosophy underpinning the Duster is value pricing and that's driven its success in other markets, its engineered to a cost and this shows in everything from interiors, features to design. Just a few examples:

1. Wipers from 10 years ago
2. Basic things like missing sound insulation hence wind noise at high speeds
3. Exposed metal in the boot
4. Basic interiors with poor finish and plastic quality

Its not designed to be modern or comfortable, more basic and spartan and most folks will realise the extent of cost cutting once they see it and drive it. Mahindra XUV with all its features will look from a different world, Mahindra did not design the XUV to be cheap, its another thing their designers are not the best. People respond to value and I think its 50K higher across the variants.

I am disappointed, I was thinking of having the 85ps with option pack for around 9.5L OTR Hyderabad. But looks like it would cost around 11L.

Now have to cancel my booking and find something within my budget.

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Certainly pricing doesn't give any positive surprise that many were hoping for, based on all the hype and hoopla in the past few months.
With lack of feaures and safety in petrol models wonder how many will opt for it?
Now I feel we need to see if the vehicle is worth the price.
How is the interiors and the plastic quality? Can anyone who have visited the showroom comment on it?

Looking at the pricing, IMHO Scorpio and Safari makes more sense compared to Duster.
Besides both the Indian SUVs offer more space as well and seating options.
