Re: The Jeep Wrangler & Grand Cherokee caught testing on Indian roads

Thanks for the pictures. Did you get any clue on the actual prices? How are the interiors in flesh and blood?

TUV, Baleno...in their Italian makeovers indeed. This butch look is un-matchable in my opinion. The price and sales figures are a different matter of course.

Parodies, mockery, jeer....they exist for all brands.

Re: The Jeep Wrangler & Grand Cherokee caught testing on Indian roads

The starting prices the guys told me were ,25 lacs for the wrangler unlimited & 75 lacs for the grand Cherokee ,everything looked rock solid on the wrangler, the body ,chasis & fittings, I haven't spent 15 minutes observing any other SUV,the driver was kind enough to let me inside the wrangler & have a look. I wasn't interested in the Grand Cherokee after hearing the price. The guys were on a extreme off-road testing drive in the hostile Himalayan terrain......

Re: The Jeep Wrangler & Grand Cherokee caught testing on Indian roads

The car starts at 23-24k in the us for standard version and close to 30k for the Sahara edition. And that to me will end up here at close to 30l base and around 40 for the top variant.

Thar will still appear the best value for money

Unless they start a manufacturing plant and get it localized these cars will continue to be exclusive to a crowd.

And it's a fiat based service centre. God help a buyer.

Absolutely hilarious video . I do agree a bit about the Cherokee which I wouldn't dare to buy as better options are available in India at the price point Jeep is planning to launch it. However, with the Wrangler, there is no other options, so I would probably buy it at some point.

Re: Fiat to bring JEEP Grand Cherokee to India

Not sure if someone noticed this, but, Jeep has brought some parts just for display at the Auto Expo. May help in having a feel of the price for the spares.

Re: Fiat to bring JEEP Grand Cherokee to India

I cannot even bring myself to comment on this thread any longer after noting pricing from others!

Old Q7 model starts at 64L - as per last cold call from an Audi dealer a few days ago...

The Cherokee is not even close to that level of quality, I would think - based on some I rented in the US.

Re: Fiat to bring JEEP Grand Cherokee to India

Sad to see that the interior shots of both the vehicles the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are of LHD and not RHD version. Though the interiors look nice but I wonder if it's exactly similar in Indian spec.

The website is Jeep India so one would expect so, right? More so considering it's a premium offering. Maybe they will update in due course of time. Hopefully!

Chalk marks on the left rear tire (and fender) are interesting...

MH12 - so probably a "company" (Jeep/Fiat) car.

Re: Fiat to bring JEEP Grand Cherokee to India

Hi Guys,

I was in Amby valley recently ( 26th march 2016) and the adventure sport area across the road was hosting a jeep event. They had all three models and the invitees were given a short preview and do's and don'ts and then offered to drive the vehicles on the off-road track.

Was really hoping that some of our bhpians got an invite !

Re: Fiat to bring JEEP Grand Cherokee to India

Motorbeam review is out. Excerpts:

Quote:
Powering the SRT is a 6.4-litre naturally aspirated HEMI V8 engine which produces 475 BHP and 630 Nm of torque. On paper, the numbers aren’t too high considering the displacement. However, in the real world, the performance of this SUV is mind numbing. Being a naturally aspirated motor, torque is available from the word go and there’s no turbo lag to deal with. This makes the car shoot like a rocket.

Speaking of shooting like a rocket, the Grand Cherokee SRT comes with launch control which is very easy to use. All one needs to do is press the launch button located next to the gearlever, straighten the steering wheel, press the brake and accelerator completely and then leave the brake pedal. The way this thing surges forward post that is an experience which is very, very difficult to put into words. To describe it in one word – unreal. Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine a SUV to launch this way. This even beats the European SUVs which have turbocharged engines with more horses in terms of brute force.

Agile, engaging to drive, fun to push around corners are terms never associated with SUVs. However, the Grand Cherokee SRT has been made keeping these things in mind and tries to showcase that cars of this class can be fun-to-drive too. And it manages to do that pretty well too. Despite its size, it is not very intimidating to drive if you drive with a little caution. You never feel that you are driving a car which won’t fit in most stilt parkings in Mumbai. Turning into corners at considerably high speeds doesn’t unsettle the SRT and it takes it all in its stride.

The suspension soaks up most of the undulations which Indian roads have on offer and provides good balance of sportiness and ride comfort. One thing which I was disappointed with in the Grand Cherokee SRT are the brakes. Despite having huge Brembo discs and calipers at the front and rear, the braking performance is not satisfactory. The brake pedal feels spongy and the feel isn’t good too. The brakes are the sole element in the whole package which do not instil confidence in the driver to go faster. I found myself braking way too early most of the times as I didn’t trust the brakes enough.

Re: Fiat to bring JEEP Grand Cherokee to India

Spotted these Jeep Wrangler twins, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a camouflaged Jeep Renegade in the Shikrapur - Ranjangaon stretch near Pune last friday morning.

They look so dated now, imo...

Doubt there will be many takers for the GC.

Very true! I was initially impressed by the Cherokee but after seeing it in person I have to agree that it lacks the road presence a Jeep should command. And the common folk just walk past it! The camouflaged Renegade had more admirers!

The following shot was taken yesterday at my office when the Jeep Trio came in probably to check into the FCA Chennai office.

The same building has Ford too and there are a few 2.2L Endeavors being used as shuttles to the airport and back for visiting executives and the Jeep GC looks very dated and small
