Facelifted Volvo S60 and XC60 Launch on 23rd October.

Both the S60 Saloon and XC60 get the new family look, improved interiors and slightly tweaked engines.

Yup - exactly. Volvo needs to focus more on the brand recognition/aspirational value. The germans are too good here, and the Japs are too good a segment below.. The safety differential has narrowed down now, compared to 10-15 yrs ago. So Volvo need to be creative!

I recently went to Volvo HQ and their museum at Arendal near Gothenburg in Sweden.
Amazing place and they are an amazing company.
I bought a lovely book on the history of the P1800 there. Will post pics later.
I aspire to an XC60. One day I will buy one!

Volvo S60, XC60 facelifts launched.

The more rounded and dynamic family look of the S60 saloon and the XC60 SUV have been replaced by a visually widened front end, more prominent horizontal lines and slimmer lights.
The new Volvo S60 gets new interior trim while the black trim on the new XC60 SUV has been ditched.
In terms of equipment, the S60 gets adaptive cornering lights while the XC60 comes with torque vectoring as standard.

A new multimedia system has also been introduced which includes a seven-inch touchscreen that can even be used when wearing gloves. The TFT instrument panel from the latest V40 Cross Country has been rolled out across the revised Volvo range. Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters have also been added to automatic models.
A key addition to the firm’s BMW 3-series-rivalling S60 saloon is the option of a lowered sports chassis for all variants.


Volvo has launched both the updated S60 saloon and the XC60 SUV with three trim levels and two engine options.

The prices are as below ex -showroom Delhi.

Volvo S60 D4 Kinetic: Rs 29.90 lakh
Volvo S60 D4 Sumum: Rs 32.50 lakh
Volvo S60 D5 Sumum: Rs 35.50 lakh
Volvo XC60 D4 Kinetic: Rs 40.50 lakh
Volvo XC60 D4 Sumum: Rs 43.50 lakh
Volvo XC60 D5 Sumum: Rs 46.55 lakh

^^Pretty steep pricing IMO. IIRC, the previous base S60 D3 used to start somewhere around 24 lakhs. With this Volvo has ensured that the buyers will not really look at the S60 as a alternate option to 3/C/A4.

I feel bad for Volvo. They have good products but a brand image that is not up there with the German Trio. Even Jaguar has a higher perceived value owing to its long historical lineage. At the current price levels the S60 is a no no for me as i would rather look at the 3. I have to agree though that the Volvo is super to look at and probably even better looking than the German Trio. What makes me tilt my decision in favour of the Germans is the lack of resale the Volvo will have and the lack of perceived value of the brand in India. Service too is a worry with the old BMW dealer now an exclusive dealer partner of Volvo in Delhi. These guys are used to raking up huge bills.

Even at 24 lakhs they could not find any takers for the pretty competent S60 D3, now at increased prices the situation is going to be worse.

I wonder with such low volumes, how are the dealers surviving?

No higher discounts on the older stock. Its around 3-4 lacs at present already.

One lady from in the bangalore dealer said if New model is coming, why we should give more discount on old?

You mean to say, there is 3-4 Lakh discount, already available on s60 ?

Yes sameer, yesterday i was speaking to one the sales guy in bangalore. The D4 kinetic is somewhere around 39 OTR, and they are giving for 35 - 36 OTR.

Maybe I am wrong; my understanding was they had only D3 and D5 options in India prior to the facelift.

What ever happened that it was available for 24? must be still valid on old stock. BTW the pre-facelift S60 looks better IMHO.

It was available for 24 ex-showroom long time back. Since then the car has seen price hikes and the current OTR prices for the older models ( I was told all are 2013 makes) in Delhi are:
Kinetic: 31L OTR
Summum: 34L OTR
D5: 37L OTR

On this there are good discounts available to the tune of 3-4L and possibly more if you sit down with your cheque book.
