BMW is one of the last proper sporting-sedans today. Let's hope it retains its genes!
Most of the reviews of the new BMW 3 series say that the steering has become lighter but it is a better handler.

Overdrive 2012 BMW 3 series review. This should give a basic information about the car for now.

Edit: This video also shows the blinking DRLs. I love the blinking on this 3.

Thing is, if there are too many cars making their first appearance and even being launched at the Expo, that some of them might get lost in the crowd, and may not generate the interest that the respective companies might be expecting from it.

Hence, companies shy away from launching new cars at the Expo. They'd rather wait a few months and then introduce it to the public, so that it gets its due.

I've heard that BMW has made the steering lighter, but the car has managed to retain its fun-to-drive factor - that is its USP. Which is great news. Several people found the steering very heavy at parking-speeds. Looks like BMW is listening after all.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

At the first look, I thought the car has gone a bit Korean (especially front on), but seeing more and more pictures and drive reports, I have started liking the way it looks. I guess that’s something common for the new BMWs post Bangle era. Even the 1-series looked quite awful in pictures, but is quite a handsome little number in flesh.

I know this thread is about the new 3 but frankly i couldnt be bothered any less. Especially since i saw that 6 series to its left. I would not have blinked twice had it been a 40/50i but no...its a 640d GC !!!
Makes me jump for joy !
So we are finally going to have a choice between seriously fast oil-burners.

re: SCOOP! 2012 F30 BMW 3 Series spied *UPDATE* Unveiled (Pg. 22)

Some of the tricks in the new F30 to improve the enthusiast experience:

1. Front suspension changed from the earlier double joint spring strut to double wishbones (appearing on the 3 for the first time - but the rear will continue with Z-axle multi link suspension).
2. 4 modes for driving – Sport, Sport+, Comfort and Eco Pro (as the name suggests will give the best economy) all this via the Driving Experience Control system already available on the 7’s and 5’s (except for the Eco Pro coming for the first time in the 3)
3. New run flats that give a great ride but still with no spare !!
4. Eight Speed gearbox with auto start stop as an option
5. A great twin scroll turbo 328i (replacing the 330i) followed later by a 335i !!!

Thanks for this terrific scoop Mad Monkey.

So BMW is in no mood to let go and is keen on bringing their latest to our country. I like that.

Looks like the F30 will suit India a lot more than the E90.

Thought 3 and 5 series BMWs were assembled in India.
Is this an initial batch brought in as an interim measure ?

Would you look at the condition of that? Makes me cringe!! No wonder they take a few days to set the car up for delivery. I mean it would take a week to remove the 11 inches of crud from that thing LOL!!

Blinking DRL ?? I don't think thats how it is (correct me if i'm wrong).

What you're seeing is the (constant) LED lights flickering only because they are being captured by a digital video camera.

I really did not know this. I thought the lights were blinking and it was putting up an awesome show

I was expecting to see that flickering on Indian roads. Thanks for informing me and correcting me. Otherwise God knows how many people I would have told to look at the blinking DRLs of the new 3.

All

Is it just me or what?
The bonnet ends much before the kidney grill. And i find it slightly unsettling.
All along the bonnet edge used to end over the grill and one would see clean sheet metal.

This is the second one that i can recall off the cuff,
The first being the Renault Fluence.

You could blame the new pedestrian-safety norms for that awkward bonnet-line on the new F30 3er.
