January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Top 20 with Year-on-Year movement

Manufacturer Charts

Manufacturers with Year-on-Year movement

NOTE : Only cars that sell over 500 units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart!
Ford appears to have combined the sales figures of the New Fiesta and the Fiesta Classic, hence there is an artificial spike in the numbers and it has been omitted from the MoM lists.

Is this the first time that Tata has over taken Hyundai for the number two slot ?

Honda's lost it badly.

Just hope they survive this market and bounce back when the production resumes as normal and Diesel Engines are launched.
City's having a waiting period of 3-4 months,Brio and Jazz 5-6 months.

Hah! Tata finally overtook Hyundai.

Good to see the Punto selling better.

Feel sad for Honda, really hope they come back, Brio is a pretty neat hatchback.

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Toyota Camry might not be VFM for Indian market, but I still don't understand how it has ZERO volume for the last two months. Has Toyota taken it off completely?

Honda continues its dismal performance off late. They should seriously get down to the scratchboard and try to admit the obvious. There is a huge demand of Jap cars in the country (they are respected), but how do you screw up on the pricing all the time. Brio is where they seem to be correcting, but very slow ramp-up of productions.

The New City might have that waiting period. Jazz is just way off. Bookings have stopped totally and the Sales Team says that the current bookings will take around 8 months. I so wanted to buy a Jazz myself, but then Honda India won't let me.

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Ford Figo numbers shot up like crazy in Jan. Surpassing the i20 for the first time.

Nissan's Sunny Whoa. 3K+ units!! That diesel has surely done it for Nissan and impacted the Etios. Sales are down by more than 10% for Etios in Jan.

Vento's numbers are going down gradually whereas the Rapid is going up.

Altis suddenly jumped up in Jan. Are they giving discounts or clearing backlog?

A-star numbers look great this month. 2K units. These maybe dealer dispatch for the refreshed one.

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Nice report and presentation Jalsa. Thanks for sharing.

VW Vento sales declining since oct. Don't know the reason though! Should be the often price increase by the company.

Diesel variant is doing wonders for Sunny. 500% increase in sales as compared to last month.

Honda City's best sales figure since Nov, I am sure it will cross 3000 units once the dealers start delivering the new version in full flow. Let's wait for the March and April sales figures. 0 sales for Jazz and Brio? must be an error in sheet.

Why on earth Maruti is selling the grand Vitara? Just 7 units in six months. Kizashi is complete failure.

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

WOW!

Tata usurps the #2 from Hyundai. Whether it can hold on to it remains to be seen! Exciting battles ahead

1600 from Punto is a great show considering the past! Brighter future - given the Fiat Caffe' s?

Camry - zero - 2nd month in a row! Even the Nissan Teana sells 35.

Forgettable month for Honda. Force One - No comment!

Renault Pulse - 746 - I'm surprised even 746 people bought the Micra throwing all that extra money!

Skoda Rapid - rising slooowly.

i10 is back into 5 figures!!

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

What in the world did Fiat India do to sell 1600 Puntos and 500+ Lineas!!!

Also commendable job by Tata to overtake Hyundai. Lets see if they are able to stay at that position!

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Good spike in sales for Sunny, Nano and Punto!

Honda had a painful month. It is a shame that excellent products like Brio, Jazz (especially post price cut) are not moving at all due to production constraints. Just unbelievable that a company like Honda, otherwise meticulous in planning and execution, could not better mitigate risks like east Asian floods - plan better. One can only hope this will be an experience they will learn from.
