Am I correct in thinking that Tavera is rear while drive which uses longitudinal mounted engine while their cruze and captiva are front wheel drive which use transverse mounted engines ? Is this the prime reason for not sharing the engines between cars of the same company?
Cost. That 2L engine from the Captiva and Cruze is not a cheap engine to build. It's a modern CRDi unit which is probably semi imported.

Also as you mentioned the cruze and captiva are front wheel drives although the Captiva has a AWD option. The engine might not be suited for MPV ladder on frame chasis.

The Innova has a 2.5L diesel as well as a 2L petrol. Both these engines cant be used in Altis as they are meant for commercial use.

I'm guessing 7 seater with sliding second row will not be that bad.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

Not much difference in the exterior from the earlier model, which by the way is ages old. I wonder why GM didn't consider a total revamp in looks! Is it that they have assumed that it will be only used in the taxi segment?

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

The only way people will buy this if price fully loaded to basic is between 8.5 to 7.5 lakhs . With the sonalika engine people will be put off . 10+ lakhs what are the thinking ??? Who will buy this car when they do not have the confidence to even put their own engine in it ?

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

Well GM do have the Enjoy MPV coming up as well. So no point in doing extensive upgrades to the Tavera.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

Still the Tavera has no ABS / AirBag / Brake Assist / ACC etc. (Or its there ?)
So this is not a family car.
If the topend model is 10+ lac,GM should provide these with the tavera.
but with Sonalika engine ? 10+ lac....

I will prefer a XYLO against this. Now XYLO seems more VFM at 10 lac.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

Is that a chequered decal on the fender or a reflection?

I think the profit realization for GM on the Tavera is huge. The Isuzu Panther, on which the Tavera is based was first introduced in the 90s. This Neo is too little, too late.

And, its not like there is a shortage for modern trucks in GM family. So, no thanks GM. I will consider the new Xylo.

I agree. The seat is literally at floor level + boat like dynamics makes this vehicle's middle seat inspired by the Omni.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

GM with their Tavera Neo 3 upgrade made TATA Grande MKII better in terms of how to do an upgrade which is too little and too late with half heartedness not considering what the customer/market needs are.

NO ABS, NO Airbgas, NO steering controls Both on Neo3 Tavera and Grande MKII

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

Yawn. Noisy Rhino engine in the neo(3) Tavera.

Tavera was preferred by the taxi community because of that long-life isuzu engine, so the question is whether this new engine will match that credential.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

Not sure if we need a new thread. GM says MPV "Enjoy" to be launched by end 2012.

To believe or not to believe is the question:

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Launched

I read in Autocar review that Chevy is looking to woo the private owner segment also with this facelift. The tavera has been primarily selling only in Taxi segment.

Is there any special reason why the companies are looking for sales in the private owner segment (Non Taxi Segment). I mean sale is a sale whether purchased by a cab driver or an owner. However the vehicle is used, GM is getting the same money.

Without safety equipment (ABS, Airbags etc), forget the private (owner driven) segment, why should one buy a 10L car without safety? The new XYLO has it at this price.

Private users need to be driver oriented, I have driven the older Tavera its not a car that you want to go on a long drive with your wife!

Chevy needs to do more than a just a facelift if it wants to enter that market.

I agree - With the minimalistic features that chevy has given, I am not sure why the Chevy PR team makes statements like they want to grow sales in Personal use segment. Airbags and ABS are offered in cars which cost 50% lower. This is ideally suited only for Yellow board segment. Do they expect personal segment should buy a car just because its a Chevrolet ?

This is synonymous to something like this - Mercedes cannot make a bi-cycle / autorickshaw, price it at 25 lacs and expect the merc aspirant to buy a cycle just because cycling is good for health
