Re: PICS : The 2012 Mahindra Xylo Facelift Launch

I'm awaiting the full review as well. Although I might get the test drive this week before the review is posted.

Check out the voice commands... some may find it pretty cheesy but I find it pretty innovative.

This is even more interesting -

Re: PICS : The 2012 Mahindra Xylo Facelift Launch

^^ though this may make some sense for the Infotainment system control in cases like when one wants to give a turn indication or start the hazzard light or even for something related to the wipers or headlights it would make much more sense to do it manually rather than using a voice command as it would be much faster and obviously for stuff like this speed is of essence.

Some times we over do it with technology. Autolight and auto wipers yes they make sense but voice command activated ones? not so in my view at least considering the way I drive.

Re: PICS : The 2012 Mahindra Xylo Facelift Launch

Voice commands for vehicle functions is just a part of the whole system. One can call phone book contact by name or call number directly; for ex "Call GTO" or "Call 98999 97432". Isn't it cool? I have seen it in Fiat and Ford but they fail more often to recognize indian accent but this one in Xylo is spot on. Other features worth mentioning are voice announcements for safety and status alerts and voice mail. We may not use voice commands for headlights, wipers or turn indicators in day to day driving but for all others it is defenetely worth having.

Re: PICS : The 2012 Mahindra Xylo Facelift Launch

Checked today with the Mahindra dealers in Bangalore, Sireesh and SKS, and none of them have E9 model in stock. Both are saying 6 weeks to 3 months waiting for it. They mentioned that they are only going to get 5 vehicles each at a time no matter how much the booking numbers are.

Although they have E8 readily available but in select colors like Black and White.

Re: PICS : The 2012 Mahindra Xylo Facelift Launch

I checked out a red E9 at the Mahindra showroom here (12+L on-road). It can seat 7 6 footers with sufficient leg room in the last row, ample in 1st and 2nd. Only sore point is the 6 footers in the last row will have their heads touching the roof. SA said 4 weeks waiting period for red E9. No test vehicle yet.

Mileage quoted: 8/9 for E9. 9/10 for E8.

E8 with ABS+Airbags is 10.8+L on road.

Other points:
7-seater config will get lumbar support in 1st and 2nd rows.
Last row gets 60:40 split and center arm-rest like in B+ sedans.
Head rests in all the rows are height adjustable.
Steering is only height adjustable.
Only E9 get leather seats.
Only E8+ABS+Airbags and E9 get alloy wheels variants. The latter alone gets alloy spare wheel.
Plastic quality has improved and don't feel like take-home-from-showroom.

This is now the official Aria killer, if the XUV has not finished it off yet.

Re: PICS : The 2012 Mahindra Xylo Facelift Launch

Xylo E9 Chennai on road price is Rs.12.23 lakhs and all E9 models have one month waiting list. Xylo E8 can only be delivered within a week.

Scorpio VLX BS4 (without airbag) is Rs.12.50 lakhs and some colors like Diamond white & Dark Grey can be delivered by a week it seems.

The only difference I see is, Voice command & Airbag for Xylo and Better image with Scorpio. And the difference being Rs.27k you choose the one you want.

Voice commands on the new Xylo quite obviously means you can expect the same on the next Scorpio facelift.

I agree with you fully.
These are proving to be tools for marketing than anything else.

If Mahindra is serious about voice activated controls, do some of the following please. (well, from an XUV perspective as Xylo doesn't all of these yet)

1. Search and play a particular song/album in the CD/USB.
2. Search for an address in the GPS navigator
3. Search for a contact in the BT paired phone and dial
4. Changing tyre

If thats something any manufacture can introduce this will make the market go crazy. Also for our road conditions this would become a CMVR act once it is introduced in any vehicle.
Nicest, impractical and enjoyable for now.

Take Care! Xylo has been given the thumbs down in the ride and handling department. XUV500 manages it better thro electronics but TV reviews of the Xylo show a serious issue.

There is a separate control for the rear AC vents.
