Re: Believe in rebirth? Which old car would you bring back on sale & why?

For me it would have to be the Tata Sierra. Albeit with more power and features.
I think it is the perfect size for today's chaotic traffic and perfect for the occasional off roading trip.

So, yes, Tata, bring it back!!

I would love to see the Standard 2000 and the Contessa back.

Re: Believe in rebirth? Which old car would you bring back on sale & why?

More than the model, to me how its replicated in current age. Take the 800 for example. 1985 800 was all about lines, looked quite sporty. Even now a well maintained one looks classy to me. But look at how the 800 has evolved, has lost all the character. Look at Baleno, The original one was a low slung sporty sedan and the new one is a hatchback is nothing like original one. I like what Jawa and RE have done to their classics- modern yet retains the old world charm. While manufacturers have been reviving the brand name, almost all have lost their original character.

Pardon if this is already posted or discussed earlier.

Maruti should bring back/ launch Grand Vitara. This is an opportune moment for it.
It would be good competitor with Jeep Compass and others in this hot segment.

P.S.- expected launch jaunary 2020.. An electrical SUV would be nice to see if they launch by this date.

Wagon R with F10D engine. Kitted out to modern (safety) levels. The ideal INDIAN city runabout.

Contessa seems to be the favorite in this thread one with modern looks and 3.0 Diesel from Isuzu would be sweet. We do love our diesels, so diesel would suit our Indian muscle car.

Jawa proved that nostalgia can make a lot of difference, Mojo failed with the same engine even with better handling and overall packaging !

Re: Believe in rebirth? Which old car would you bring back on sale & why?

Contessa - vintage limo of India
NE 118 - with rust proof body ... still miss the refined Nissan engine and the synchro mesh gearbox
2nd gen Honda City - well built and a classy design overall
Fiat Palio
Fiat Adventure
Mitsubishi Lancer

Last 3 lost their credibility over a period of time bcoz of poor management.
Would like sole Maruti - Vitara if brought to India with same built standards as internationally

8th gen Civic that was launched here in 2006. Probably the best looking Honda car even now.

I would love to resurrect these:

The 1980's Rover 3500/ SD 1 - the preferred UK Police car with its 3.5
Litre V8 engine and which used to be made and sold here in India as the Standard 2000 albeit with a lousy engine.
This car looked super futuristic even in the 1980's.

The Rover Montego too, which was a lovely car.

Ford Mondeo

Tata Sierra.

Of course all of these would have to be brought thoroughly upto modern standards.

I would love Mahindra to resurrect the 4-door Thar. Call it Thar, Commander, Marshall, whatever. The Bolero design just isn't the same, especially the iconic front. Seriously undercut the Wrangler.

The 8th gen Honda Civic. It was, and it still is a head turner. The new Civic pales in comparison.

Re: Believe in rebirth? Which old car would you bring back on sale & why?

Ambassador — a cleverly reinvented one, modern tech but evocative looks, would have a market. (Think VW Beetle, Fiat 500, Mini Cooper... but not priced so high.) Peugeot has the rights to the name now, and if the Peugeot-FCA merger goes through, Fiat could bring back the Ambassador!

Standard Herald (remake of Triumph Herald) — remember it? It was a good looking car for its time: my grandfather had one for over 20 years. Neither Standard nor Triumph exist any more, not sure who has the rights. [edit: apparently Triumph marque rights are owned by BMW]

Re: Believe in rebirth? Which old car would you bring back on sale & why?

It has to be the TATA Sierra but with all the bells and whistles of a modern machine. It was the first drool worthy SUV in India for me. The design was classic and still looks good. All they need to do is a decent makeover with good safety features. Still hoping TATA gets them back just like LR did the defender.
