Re: Believe in re-birth? Which old car would you bring back?

Here goes my list
1) Old Zen
- 1.3L Petrol heart from Esteem and 1.3L MJD Diesel mill
- 14" shoes + decent alloys will be a killer look
2) Sierra
- 2.2L Dicor engine
- Little curves here and there

OT:
Is there a similar thread of bikes? If so, I'm sure RX will win the poll.

Re: Believe in re-birth? Which old car would you bring back?

How I would like to see (not in any order)
1. Ford Mondeo - we roamed and roamed and roamed cruising on the snaky Scotish lands relentlessly in it, the experience still lives within
2. Premier Padmini - just from the heart long time family association
3. OHC - 1st Gen Honda City with clear lamps (1st revision of the OHC), what a cruiser of a car, had blasts with her on highways, I still turn head when I see one on road
4. Ah and lastly from the Very Bottom of the Heart pls bring back Contessa Classic from the Dead and re-alive her with new heart

Re: Believe in re-birth? Which old car would you bring back?

  • Fiat Palio Adventure with modern day oil burner.
  • 2nd Gen Honda City with modern interiors. The Honda City VTECs bassy growl when revved is one of the best audio my ears recepted.
  • Facelifted 1st Gen Mitsubishi Lancer (with chrome grill) with a modern day (turbo??) petrol / oil burner.
  • Daewoo Matiz (with the bug eyes )

Re: Believe in re-birth? Which old car would you bring back?

The Ford Ikon 1.6 SXi NXT.
+ Superb steering
+ Torquey motor with great low end grunt and reasonable FE
+ Excellent poise and handling
+ Slick gear shifts
+ Well built

- Maintenance costs were a bummer
- Brakes were poor
- No safety kit

Voted for Zen.
Though would have loved to see Fiat Palio (original) in the list. IMO, the original Palio was the best looking hatch EVER introduced in India.

A question to all - no offence. Be frank please.

Would you really buy these cars if they come to showroom with the elevated price based on inflation today?

Or do you write just what you loved then? I liked Zen, Quails etc, However, I cannot think buying cars with age old design and outdated engine and technology. Do you?

I am sure a car like Contessa or Sierra will be hot if it comes back equipped with a new powerful engine and technology that matches its looks. Iconic cars like them which really brought in some changes in the car scene or which were the 'firsts' are going to be popular if re-introduced again. Its cars like the Ford Ikon, Honda City..etc would be seen as 'old cars' by most and there are not going to be much takers, unless they are brought back with significantly charming changes.

I would really love a Peugeot 309. It had one of the best ride qualities & amazing ground clearance.

Good question, my answer is no. I just loved these cars back then.

They'd be pretty outdated now. Though one car in the list: Ford Mondeo actually seemed ahead of its time.

But if I did have spare cash and no commitments, I would buy the Tata Estate

How can they be outdated if they re-introduced with a new heart and features that matches present standards.

And good to finally see someone who will buy a Tata Estate. It would definitely be a winner car Looks, space, no competition in the estate scene. Just bring it back with a Di engine and see whats going to happen.

A rebirth list without a Palio GTX!!!!

I vote for others. And that the Palio GTX. A Gem of a car. One hell of an Italian.

Oh well, by "matching power" (your opening post), if you mean mechanics (not just the engine) that match present standards, then yes, I would buy my chosen models (Mondeo and Estate)

My preference would be to have a Premier 118NE packaging ABS, stiffer suspensions, Power steering, a Multijet Diesel power plant, and the list goes on.
