2012 Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

Ford Launches 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up; Makes the Aspirational Achievable for Indian Customers

Ford India launches 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up to engage and elevate customers with its global quality, addictive driving dynamics and intuitive technology at an attractive price

Ford introduces an all-new variant – Ambiente to start the new line-up and builds on it with enriched content on the Style and Titanium+ trims. The simplified 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up now comprises two petrol, two diesel and two automatic trims.

At a starting price of Rs. 723,000 (ex-Showroom, New Delhi), All-New Fiesta Ambiente redefines value; the new 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up offers unmatched value to customers with its segment-leading features and class-leading fuel-efficiency

NEW DELHI, MARCH 14, 2012 – In a strategic move to go further for its customers by democratizing technology, Ford India today introduced the new 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up with a simplified portfolio at compelling value.

The newest addition to the line-up, the All-New Ford Fiesta Ambiente edition comes loaded with several class-leading features priced at a compelling Rs. 723,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and brings Indian customers closer to the global quality, addictive driving dynamics and intuitive technology of the All-New Ford Fiesta.

The 2012 line-up of All-New Ford Fiesta will be available in manual transmission in two trims, in both petrol and diesel powertrain options. By offering the Ambiente in 1.5L Ti-VCT at Rs. 723,000(ex-showroom, New Delhi), and 1.5L Duratorq TDCi Style at Rs. 899,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi), Ford brings unmatched value to its Indian customers.

Additionally, the 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up offers the All-new Ford Fiesta PowerShift Automatic. With segment-first dual-clutch six-speed technology, Ford Fiesta PowerShift Automatic delivers class-leading fuel economy of 16.97 KM/L. It is available in two variants– Style and Titanium+ in 1.5L Ti-VCT engine and priced at Rs. 899,000 and Rs. 970,300 (ex-showroom, New Delhi) respectively. The All-New Fiesta PowerShift Automatic has a unique sealed-for-life transmission unit that requires no maintenance for 10 years or 240,000 KMs.

“To bring the global quality, addictive driving dynamics and intuitive technology to a wider base of customers, we have gone further by introducing the Ambiente and Powershift Automatic variants at compelling price points. This also underlines our commitment to go further to democratize technology and provide customers with products that they want with segment-leading features and lower cost of ownership,” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India.

Redefining choice

Priced aggressively to appeal to a value-conscious customer, the Ambiente variant features EPAS, Driver Airbag, Driver seat height adjust, ABS, Power mirrors, Turn indicators on ORVM, Tilt Steering, Guide me home headlamp, Front seat belt height adjuster and adjustable rear headrests.

In addition to all these features, the top-end Titanium+ will have Cruise Control, Rear Park Assist, Bluetooth®voice control, auto power-fold mirrors, reverse parking sensor and chrome front grille – features only seen in expensive higher segment vehicles. The Powershift Automatic Titatnium+ variant will additionally have leather seats giving a plush and rich feel to the amazing ride experience of customers.

“We are aware of the evolving needs of our customers in India and have to respond to changing market dynamics by constantly learning from their feedback. With the introduction of 2012 Ford Fiesta line-up, we are adding more dynamism and diversity to our showrooms and provide customers with what they really want.” Boneham added.

With no changes to the already popular design language, the 2012 line-up comes equipped with existing tech-tastic features like an intuitive human-machine interface, first-in-segment Advanced Bluetooth Voice Control that allow for hands-free control over six functions such as phone, radio, CD, USB, iPod and electronic climate control.

Redefining fuel efficiency

Powered by all-new fuel-efficient 1.5 L Ti-VCT and 1.5 L Duratorq TDCi powertrains developed for India and built in Chennai, the new 2012 Ford Fiesta delivers excellent handling in city as well as highway conditions, without sacrificing its essentially sporty character.

Both engines offer best-in-class fuel economy: 1.5 L Ti-VCT delivers 16.86 KM/L*and the 1.5 L Duratorq TDCi, 23.5 KM/L*. The All-New Fiesta Powershift Automatic with 1.5 L Ti-VCT breaks the myth about automatics by offering a comparable fuel efficiency of 16.97 KM/L*– making it India’s most fuel efficient automatic sedans in its segment **.

Superior entertainment and comfort

The 2012 edition has Voice Control – a segment-first – that will allow for hands-free control over six functions: mobile phone, radio, CD player, USB drive, iPod and temperature. Integrated Aux-in Port to ‘plug and play’, digital signal processing to enhance sound quality, as well as intelligent phone utilities to swap, hold, mute and transfer calls, are features that continue to showcase Fiesta’s intuitive technology.

Improved driving dynamics and safety

Powered by new top-of-the-line powertrains developed specially for India and built in Chennai, the new four-door Fiesta sedan delivers excellent handling for city and highway driving, without sacrificing its essentially sporty character.

The first-in-segment EPAS with Pull Drift Compensation technology will continue to adapt to changing road conditions leading to increased safety and control in the 2012 line-up.

Fiesta's ability to hug the road and cruise quietly will continue to be the hallmark of the 2012 line-up. More than 55 percent of the structure in the new lineup will use high-strength steel with ultra-strong boron steel reinforcing several key points. Safety is also enhanced by standard front driver and passenger airbags on Style and Titanium+ trims.

Better ownership experience

Ford India will offer a 2-year warranty/ 100,000 KM to ensure the peace of mind that comes with owning the latest Ford Fiesta 2012 line-up. The years of research, superior materials and the best of engineering also bring to the customer a lower cost of ownership.

Living up to the company's new brand promise, "Go Further," Ford India offers a hassle-free service and ownership experience with the 2012 line-up of New Fiesta through its 230 sales and service outlets in over 123 cities.

Re: Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

High Points

- The Fiesta is now available in 2 variants for each engine & transmission option. Thus, two variants each for the petrol MT, diesel MT and Petrol AT.

- The Petrol Fiesta now starts at Rs. 723,000 (that's 1 lakh lesser than the entry price at the time of original launch). Petrol MT available only in Ambiente & Titanium+

- The Diesel Fiesta starts at Rs. 899,000 (only Rs. 28,000 lesser than the entry diesel at the time of original launch). Diesel MT available only in Style & Titanium+.

- The Style variant for the petrol has been done away with.

- The difference between the starting-level petrol & diesel is a whopping 1.75 lakh rupees! Of course, the entry-level diesel does get more equipment (dual front airbags, cruise control, climate control, fog lamps etc.)

Main Features of the Petrol Ambiente Variant:

- Driver Airbag
- Driver seat height adjust
- ABS
- Electric mirrors
- Turn indicators on ORVMs
- Climate Control
- Guide me home headlamp

The top-end Titanium+ gets Cruise Control, Rear Park Assist, Bluetooth voice control, auto power-fold mirrors and reverse parking sensor. The DCT Automatic variant gets leather seats over and above.

How much will the Titamium+ petrol model sell for? Would also appreciate if the difference in equipment between the ambiente and titanium+ models are specified.

Do you feel now that the fiesta is decent value for money and a good drivers car or is the city E/S version still the pick of the lot?

Re: 2012 Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

This is good, but i feel ford needs to do much more to address perceptions about the price of spares - i drove a fiesta for a year and was shocked at the amount i spent maintaining that car. As i understand resale values of Fords are among the lowest in the market.

I think these are 2 other key reasons why the Ford has not seen many takers - even though its a great car.

I guess the Titanium+ also gets a passenger airbag.

It looks like Ford finally has come to senses with its pricing. However, it should also improve the quality at the rear, especially the door trim and the ugly folding arm rest. The arm rest should be at the same height as the armrest on the door.

I guess the Ambiente variant has been introduced to compete with the Corporate Edition of the All New Honda City. The CE version of the City has a waiting of 2 months as of now. But till now, it was the only petrol sedan in that segment that was offering ABS and airbags. This new Fiesta offers ACC and indicators on ORVMs that may not be there on the CE of City.

It always surprises me how these big names - like Ford, Honda etc - get their pricing so wrong. In less than a year after launch, Ford have had to drop their prices.
At least they were pragmatic enough to react much quicker than Honda with their Jazz.

This was much required. But have they really learned enough ? Was it so hard to realize the reason behind Figo's success ?

I still feel a drop of 40-50K further would have really brought them back into the game. But now with half battle lost, the 'Expensive' perception has already got into the minds of their customers who still prefers buying a Fiesta Classic

A good by Ford, though it came too late. Fiesta has already been perceived as an expensive car and it will take a lot of advertising to do away with it.

Also Ford should have launched the Ambiente trim in the diesel avatar as well. It would have sold well, leading to more Fiestas on road. In turn, it could have acted as an advertisement for the car.

+1. Another 50k drop in the price will surely challenge City's share(along with Ford's own classic too), in the Petrol category.
However, the diesel mill version still seems to be expensive. But almost at par with Vento, Verna and a tad higher than Rapid. Yeah, the features are on the higher side, which is again a thing to ponder while making a decision.
Anyways, a very good move by Ford. Better late than never. Unlike the lost plot of Jazz by Honda.
Also, this information should be well marketed by Ford sales team to penetrate enough to the target customers.
O.T.
Tata's still need to work on the Aria pricing. Hope they learn from their own and other's mistakes and price the Strome well.

Re: 2012 Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

I think most of us focus too much on the price of the base variant although that's not version one ends up buying. The diesel Style variant at Rs. 899,000 undercuts the Vento Highline (which is the variant it should be compared with based on features) by at least Rs. 24,000. It is more expensive by about the same margin from the Comfortline but that really can't compare in terms of features.

In short, I think Ford has done well. Even the Style AT is Rs. 40,000 cheaper than the Honda City V AT (again comparing like to like variants in features).

Now, Ford we want the Ecoboost engine with the DSG transmission.

Re: 2012 Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

This is a welcome move by Ford!

I disagree that it can be priced lesser since base version itself is loaded (has a driver airbag, ABS, Driver seat height adjust for instance)! Of course all cars in India are overpriced to a certain extent but in comparison to other cars it looks fine.

From the reports i read, it is a fantastic car to drive and looks fabulous when viewed front-on (The rear is a sad story though i agree). The bulging rear aint so bad on the road. Now that i am seeing more cars on the road and they indeed look very very attractive in the real world.

I think this will revive the sales & get the Fiesta back on track.

Re: 2012 Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

Its an awesome move by Ford India. This car in much nicer to drive than the Honda or the VW, the only real downside is the lack of rear seat space and according to the dealer in Coimbatore Ford is redesigning the rear seat for its 2012 model and the cars should hit the showroom in a month or two. They do not take orders for the Diesel Fiesta as of now. Equipment levels are top class when compared to the competition. There s no better drivers car at this price point. Now all Ford need to do is to market it properly.

Re: 2012 Ford Fiesta now starts at 723,000 (ex-Delhi)

The diesel is the main money spinner and as far as i can see the diesel prices have only been cut by 30k which is petty amount for a 10 lakh rupee car [on road price ]. When you look at the Verna with a monstrous engine, outstanding looks , great feature list, Hyundai sales and service network, resale value why would anybody give more than a glancing look to the Fiesta diesel model unless they are a ford loyalist.
