With Regards to there being a gap by Hyundai plugging the plugs on the production of the Hyundai, read that they have enough inventory to last them till October or till the time the Verna is ready to hit the markets.

Bold move by the company and goes to show the commitment and seriousness that Hyundai as a company shows towards the Indian market.

I've seen the new Accent and it looks like its in the same space as the current one, albiet roomier. Rear seating issues have been taken care of, but otherwise it is not in a different segment and is a logical successor. However, it does not have as much street presence as the current accent in view of its quirky looks.

I wouldnt be surprised if it gets a new grille/face for the Indian market. The new 1.6 engine is also quite a step up from the current range. I wonder if we will get the new 4-cylinder Hyundai CRDi in place of the current Detroit Diesel 3-pot, though. It should, because its claimed to be much more refined and refinement is the only point in favour of the Fiesta 1.4 TDCi currently.

All in all if they release the new car at the same price point (GLS, not GLE pricepoint) we should have some interesting times ahead. Looks like they were waiting for everyone else (Fiesta, Aveo) to play their hands before they showed their card.

It would have been better if the existing accent would sell along with verna, but hyundai rarely makes marketing mistakes.

Don't worry. MUL will not upgrade it's models and may be sell them for a cheaper price and people will by them saying that it is more VFM :-).

In India people don't care for technology/modern design if the car fulfills their basic requirements like FE,Cheaper Price and A.S.S.

MUL is doing is.. bit... though rather slowly...
Zen is supposed to go this summer!
800... is going ... (being replaced by Alto)
WagonR... not really... outdated! (but still a model change is expected soon)
Alto... (its as modern as it gets in India)
Swift... ... shhh
Baleno... some people just don't like its rear... else the car offers everything. (dated?? what dated?.. if it beats the compitition on most counts)

That only leaves the esteem!.... (just one damn car!... which has no hope)

I don't see a reason to complain about MULs outdated lineup! ... Just b'coz hyundai discontinued one of its dying cars!

A company is supposed to support a discontinued model with spares for atleast 7yrs ( or is it 10?)

Add Ford to that list as well. Its baffling why Hyundai would stop production so soon because.
  • The Verna will come at a price premium which means Hyundai dosent have a entry level sedan to battle with Flair/Esteem/Indigo.
  • There will be a pretty big gap between Getz and Verna which the old Accent would have filled.
  • Even if the new car came at same price (wishful thinking), its still few months away and ramping up production needs time. Why give up on 4 months of sales?

and you pointed out esteem as an old and dated design, do you know how much old is Accent? afaik, esteem has constantly faced some changes for the betterment over the last decade, but accent (?) has got nothing worth talking, except those version-renamings (like in softwares, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2c !!).
in today's scenario, accent is also outdated!

@aseem: actually there were rumours that accent would run along with verna, coz thr was a big gap between accent and elantra prices.

Even 1 week back, a small article came in times of india that "new looking accent" would come up in mid sept.

btw look at this post

makes sense?
I still believe that spruced up accent will come up along Verna.

new accent would compete with entry level sedans like indigo, flair etc.

while verna would take on city, fiesta, aveo.
what say?

Me and shan saw the guys at chennai plant test driving it while we were at the nearby atm on the trackday.
Though it was heavily covered, its somewhat very similar looking to the old accent.
Cheers

design and ergonomics wise I am pretty dissapointed with the new accent. let alone a 6 feet guy, even a 5,8 would have a problem sitting at the rear. Just had some time with the car at the toronto Auto show.

The only way it will sell is with a lower price unless hyundai has also achieved the brand value of a suzuki and Honda.

but I am pretty impressed with hyudai for bringing in the new products pretty fast. Their new Azera is a superb luxury car too. lets see what they do with the accent replacement in India.
