Re: Renault Scala

The Scala looks a fair bit more proportionate than the Sunny but it does look a little dated too. The "Caaaaar" has some proportion problem, but otherwise I think it has hit the sweet spot in the Indian mid size sedan market with a very leisurely diesel engine and tons of space. Fingers crossed on what the target pricing of the Scala is. I'm just amazed at how aggressive Renault is in India!

Re: Renault Scala

Will the add for this be like this " The Caar now available as Renault Scala"
Without much of brand loyalty, this kind of re badging is unlikely to take off in a big manner for Renault.
And the outstanding is they wanted a premium for this extra ordinary effort and out of box thinking from Team Renault.
How will one justify the premium, what will the sales person answer if some one asks about this?
He will say this way I guess " Sar, Renault sar, great campany sar, F1 car displayed campany sar, big campany sar?

Actual the information is, this decision is not purely Renault's decision but from Nissan too.
Being an alliance company, Nissan wants to give a lifting hand to Renault.
But IMHO, the best helping hand for each other is, they share the sales/service network, which is the hour of need at present. Instead of reinventing the wheel, this will greatly improve the availability across India and have a proper reach.

R-N alliance may not be interested in making another TATA-FIAT sales and service network story

IMO Scala will be launched only with the diesel heart (similar to pulse) initially and both Pulse and scala petrol engines will be launched together in next Fiscal

Re: Renault Scala

Owner: Driver, Scaaar nikalo!
Driver: Madam/saab, mein Doctor nai hoon!

Jokes apart, I personally think it's a good move provided they look at the following:
  • Proper Product differentiation as compared to Sunny
  • Proper pricing
  • affordable cost of ownership
  • A**

Re: Renault Scala

This car could sell.

Looks great and much more upmarket than the Sunny.
The design is not too bulbous unlike the Sunny.

Interiors seem miles ahead of the Sunny !!

The biggest knock against new entrants like Nissan and Renault is that they don't have enough dealerships and service centers. So won't it be better if Nissan and Renault merged their showrooms etc? They could instantly double the number of dealerships which would give much more confidence to the buyers. Same thing about VW and Skoda.

I think they are doing pretty well with the current arrangement (same with VW and Skoda). If a car manage to hit a right chord with the buying public, no. of dealerships do take a backseat I guess. Thats what I feel looking at the recent success stories like the Sunny, and the Duster.

Personally I feel different brands having different dealerships and service facilities is the right way.

Re: Renault Scala

Autocar says that Renault will launch its version of the Nissan sunny, Scala this Diwali.
Just like the Nissan Micra-clone Pulse, the Scala is expected to come with some cosmetic changes to give it a Renault identity and distinguish it from its Japanese sibling.

Re: Renault Scala

Autocar has revealed an image of Renault Scala.

SCOOP! Renault Scala revealed | News | Autocar India

Quote:
These are the first pictures of the Renault Scala saloon, which will go on sale next month. The Scala is essentially the Nissan Sunny which has been badge-engineered by Renault. The front-end gets a new grille and headlamps to give it a Renault identity and it looks all the better for it. Unlike the traditional chrome grille the Sunny wears, the Scala gets a hexagonal grille which extends down into the bumper and this makes it look much more distinctive.

The Renault Lozenge has been moved up from the grille to the body and the alloy wheels are similar to those on the Renault Pulse. At the rear there isn’t much change except for the tail-lights, which sport a new reflector design. There are no changes to the interior as well, except for the Renault logo on the steering wheel.

The Scala will be launched with two engines, the same pair of 1.5-litre 84.8bhp diesel and 1.5-litre 98bhp petrol motors that power the Nissan saloon.

The Scala is likely to be priced marginally more than the Sunny keeping in mind the brand hierarchy in the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The Scala is expected to be priced marginally higher than the Sunny.
However, what remains to be seen is how well customers take to the Renault-badged saloon. If the response to Renault Pulse, which sells less than a quarter of the mechanically-identical Nissan Micra, is anything to go by then the Sunny could have the upper hand over the Scala as well. However, the fantastic success of the Duster may have changed the perception of the Renault brand in India. And this bodes well for the Scala.

To me the front looks more like the Renault Pulse.
