HM to bring in the colt

Saw this in Apr Overdrive
Hindustan motors is planning to bring in the Mitsubishi colt to target it against the Getz and swift. Internationaly the engine options are a 1.4L Petrol(95ps) and 1.5L diesel common rail(95ps). The large hatch segment is hotting up deifnately and the diesel version will also meet the exise cut normas. If Mitsu brings in the 1.1L 75PS option, then the petrol version will meet the lower exise norms.

Thats one hatch that you'd love to drive Zippy, as well. Very aptly named lil hatch, but isnt it a two-door vehicle everywhere else (except in Malaysia where it becomes the "Proton Satria") ?

This will be a wonderful car! Just thinking what will be price? If properly priced it can give tough time to other small cars.

Previously neither Lancer nor Pajero lived upto the hype. They were both overpriced and expensive to maintain. Probably why now HM targets small Colt.

HM is, as usual, late in bringing the Colt. The Getz and Swift have a headstart. Going by past experience, HM takes really long to introduce new models. By the time the Colt comes to India, I won't be surprised if there are many more players in the segment - the new look Palio, maybe something from Honda, maybe something from Toyota.....
HM will have to stop dragging their feet and take some bold and drastic steps if they intend to survive and just hope that their cars live up to the hype.

Small cars are the future of Indian roads now. I dont see any reason why HM wont bring the Colt here. And they better do it fast.. as Aditya said, the segment is already heating up!

I expect a gradual shift to C segment by the indian middle class.... though it'll take time.

Practically speaking, except for parking there is only a marginal difference in road space required by hatchbacks and sedans ... specially the B+ hatchbacks!

back to the topic... HM might not have much success.

Colt is 3870mm long, 1550mm high and 1695mm wide.2500mm wheelbase
Getz: 3810; 1515; 1665; 2455

now this is something "Colt models come generously equipped with driver and passenger front airbags, ABS anti-lock brakes with EBD electronic brakeforce distribution, ISOfix seats, central locking, alloy wheels, radio/CD stereo system, colour-coded bumpers and immobiliser all as standard."

Knowing Overdrive being Overdrive i bet the Colt wont come as soon as you expect. Magzines have to write something in the pages and to fill them they attack any vehicle. Many of the vehicles have yet to be come which were told by mags in 2002. Anywayz OD is bulfing in air by saying the colt will come with MIVEC engine Heck their Flagship model Lancer CEDIA doesnot come with a MIVEC a Hatch will..

Steer, Satria is the early 90s Colt which is nothing but a Lancer hatchback. (1 gen behind desi Lancer). And they are all 2 door only.

The new Colt in question is a tall boy B seg hatch that is on a shared platform with the SMART ForFour. The Proton-Mitsu link has been dead for a while now.

I agree, Satria still looks good after all these years and has a Lotus tuned suspension.

Dont be so happy. HM will drop something on the trip to India due to reduce weight and be more FE.

Most of the luxury features will be dropped and power will also go down drastically.

Actually its an late 90's Colt, but nevermind anyway. I agree it has nothing to do with the current Colt - I remember Colts everywhere were 2-doors whereas 4-door Satrias were available from HiCom unless I'm mistaken.

They were good cars, by the way. Some of those Satrias were pretty fast too - it was the favourite boy-racer car in Malaysia.

Satria is a corruption of Kshatriya, by the way.
