I've seen IKONs made in India running well in Southafrica and it was named FIESTA.
Almost all Tata cars including Safaris are sold too.

Most surprising are 'made in india' Padminis doing rounds in Gulf countries.

I have seen original made in Italy, LHD Fiat 1100-D cars in the Netherlands and in (would you believe it?) California, USA.
These were complete with all stainless-steel radiator grilles, trim and hubcaps, as also cabin heaters.

But Padminis? And RHD or LHD?

Maruti used to ship Left Hand Drive 800s to Netherlands in the early 1990s. Also some Tata Indicas were shipped to Cuba(!!) few years back.
Many Latin American countries have the entire Hyundai lineup as we have in India. Also the Maruti Esteem was sold in North America as the Geo Metro by General Motors in the 1990s and its hatchback version with the same 1.3L engine was sold as the Suzuki Swift. Also the Maruti Baleno with the 1.6L engine was sold as the Suzuki Esteem in North America.
Don't forget Pakistan. Maruti 800-Suzuki Mehran, Maruti Omni-Suzuki Bolan, Suzuki Cultus is a Maruti Esteem hatchback with a Zen's engine.
Wagon Rs are sold all over Europe.
The popular show Top Gear on BBC once secretly tested a City Rover(Tata Indica) in UK and concluded that it is the worst car they have ever driven( it wasn't Jeremy Clarkson, it was James May).

Have seen Hyundai Santro in UK (It was named as amigo)...have also seen Wagon R there (not from suzuki but as a Vaxhaull car).
Even noticed a van similar to Maruti Omni.

But was most amused to see the old Maruti 800....as an alto there..

I'm afraid you are mistaken. City Rover was exported with the Indigo petrol engine developing 85 horse power and 14 inch wheels.

The diesel City Rover was planned but never launched since the company got taken over by the Chinese. All City Rovers had the petrol Indigo's engine.

Made in india? Hyundais. They export about 20% of the vehicles made in India to various places around the world.
Thoughtful of you to have pointed out the difference between Indian manufactured (but foreign designed) cars and those that are actually of Indian origin (very very few in number). May the tribe of the latter category grow!

The Tata Indica is not even a pure Indian car as Tata claim it.
It was designed by an Italian company I.D.E.A Institute of Design in Turin, Italy (who designed the Palio) and its engine was sourced from Renault and Peugeot (for the diesel).

Many car manufacturers hire design houses for car design. This includes many race car makers, GM, Ford, Hyundai etc., As for the engine could you point to your source of information about it being a Renault or Peugot engine?
