Tata beats porsche by 3secs!!

http://autocarindia.com/new/Information.asp?id=1433

The Silhouette is reputed to be three seconds quicker around certain circuits compared to Porsche’s GT3!

Now that's something.

I remember reading in this forum that it is an Alfa Romeo engine. Anyway, kudos to Tata. Good going.

The Indica Silhouette shares major components with the racing Renault Megane.

It is powered by the same V6 engine. Only the body above the chassis is different form the racing Megane's body.

It is a pure racing car, only for the track, so obviously it will be faster than almost all road cars around tracks.

But still, hats off to Tata for going beyond the ordinary and giving us exciting concepts like this car.

Looks like tata's going great guns! But the pic definitely looks like a April 1st photoshopped joke!
Wish they did something about it's design. Still looks like a indica with racer boy type flares. Doesn't look too aerodynamic. I'd personally prefer a car that looks as fast as it goes.
No complaints about its performance though!

Godspeed.

Alok.

Just being devil's advocate here. Tata car is specifically designed as one-off fast racing car, while Porsches are road worthy production cars. There is big difference in these two.

yeah yeah all real enthusiasts know that but cmon lets try to appreciate tata a bit for what they have done. Is it that we go ga ga over small achievements of foreign manufacturers but cannot say even a few good bits about our desi manufacturers no matter what they do and perhaps u cannot digest that indian companies like tata is capable of being equivalent with the best!!

Why do you think I can't digest Tata's achievements? I do appreciate Tata for being ambitious to think something like this. But comparing it immediately with a Porsche is probably bit too early. As you stay more on this forum, you'll notice that few auto-gurus here have managed to create 200-225 bhp monsters from 100-120 bhp cars in their individual capacity. Tata Motor surely has enough resources to create 330bhp car. It will be real challenge when they start producing these cars on assembly line. Let's not be too patriotic about this whole issue.

@Steeroid: the engine is from renault; islero has already mentioned it in his post....

food for thought: start wondering what would happen if tata mass-produced these hatches (with redesigned contours), at, say 15-16 lacs. would YOU be one of the customers....?

pun arena: imagine tata racing bringing the silhouette onto track events; you see narain stopping half through the race, to pick up the few buckets of nuts and bolts that the car managed to leave behind in the third lap...or perhaps the car comes in for a pitstop after the fourth lap to tank up- not just petrol, but engine oil too....

The Porshe GT3 will probably be cheaper to maintain in the long run, with fewer spare parts and A.S.S. hassles
