re: The Suzuki Swift Sport (not coming to India)

Now Autocar India confirms the Swift Sports with 1.4L boosterjet.

I hope something is cooking, and not just mere speculations like earlier two generations.

Shashi

Looks very much on track as both the cars - Vitara S and Swift Sport are rumored to debut in India carrying the same 1.4l boosterjet and that petrol cars are gaining popularity.
Vitara S is likely to come first and both are most likely to be retailed through NEXA.

re: The Suzuki Swift Sport (not coming to India)

Looks like all the rumours and news about the Indian launch of the Swift Sport (or even the Swift RS for that matter) have died down. This is the time to launch the car, if there ever was one. Enthusiasts will be willing to shell out the 12 lakhs odd that the Sport can cost here, given the brand equity of Suzuki.

re: The Suzuki Swift Sport (not coming to India)

  • We'll keep dreaming like we have been for years and this will never get launched in India. MSIL has a disregard for us enthusiasts (at least in India).
  • MSIL already have a engine that they like to call 'sporty' for so called hot hatches in the 1.0 L as seen on Baleno RS. It is unlikely that the hatch family will see 1.0 and the bigger 1.4 co-exist in the Indian market. One of them will need to make room for the other.
  • From the media reports thus far, the 1.4 will possibly find its way first on the Ciaz and maybe even Petrol brezza subsequently.
  • The Baleno with 1.0 L sells only 1000 units a month. Considering any vehicle adorning 1.4 has to be priced even higher, takers will be even fewer and hence we will continue to dream on much the same was as we have been for a Jimny.
As an enthusiast I will be overjoyed if either of the 2 (swift sports or Jimny) eventually find their way into the Indian market but the sad truth is there is a higher probability of this not happening than it being the other way around.

With 140 horses, the most powerful Suzuki Swift is lively and easy to drive, while maintaining a comfort that makes it suitable for everyday use
Quote:
Suzuki Swift Sport is not a really "bad" model, but rather a brilliant "everything to do": the good soundproofing of the passenger compartment and the not too rigid suspension allow you to travel in four (in three on the sofa you are not wide) with a comfort comparable to that of the other versions. Steering is also a compromise between comfort and sportiness: it is quite consistent and precise, but we would have preferred it more ready and direct. The engine pushes decisively but with such regularity, and so contained, to give the impression of being less brilliant than it actually is.

Mat really seems to enjoy the Swift Sport in the UK. Here's his review.

re: The Suzuki Swift Sport (not coming to India)

This curious-looking Swift test mule was spotted by Praneet Singh on the roads around Gurgaon.

In an all-black exterior colour shade, new alloys and low-profile tyres, is this the Swift RS spotted on Indian roads for the very first time?

Doesn't look like we are going to get the Swift Sport in India if this is being tested. Very disappointed.

Yeah look at those alloys. Disgrace. I also believe S-Cross would be the most fitting model in Suzuki India's portfolio to get that 1.4 Turbo Petrol. But if they couldn't keep a segment equalling diesel in their portfolio, high chance of a ' powerful petrol ' in India. India is Suzuki's main focus indeed.

re: The Suzuki Swift Sport (not coming to India)

Maruti is a car driven by volumes. I don't think Maruti would plonk 1.4 to Swift in India.

Instead, a likely candidate might be the 1.5 soon expected to debut in Ciaz and Ertiga. Making an engine for a single, even one as successful as Swift would require heavy investment on Maruti's part, while on the other hand Maruti is already investing amount on the 1.5 which could do more than 10k units per month with Ciaz, Eritga and potentially Brezza, S-Cross.

Swift Sport driven and reviewed in Germany - Verdicts it as an all rounder and a true fun to drive car!
