Team-BHP - Mahindra Quadro

A long time ago, I remeber reading somewhere about this Mahindra model called Quadro.

One could build the car according to his/her choice, there were different body panels avalible, different seating configurations etc etc.

I want to know, what came of this vehicle?

This doubt came to me recently when looking through old issues of magazines, and seeing a funny-looking yellow Mahindra, with a different body style, in almost all reports of the 'Great escape' or whatever that Mahindra rally is called.

Could anyone supply more information about what came of this vehicle, is it still produced etc, just for information's sake?

Hi Islero

Mahindra had opened up a customisation clinic where you could choose the body style, engine options, accessories, colour etc. and configure your own Jeep. Access was via a website (which I have not forgotten). This was in collaboration with a designer (again forgotten).

I had sat in a silver Quadro, and it was an absolute mess. May look nice in an auto show but on the road, it was terrible! See this link for a short article on the Quadro.

The Jeep you speak about is a CJ340 modified by Dilip Chabbria way back in the mid-nineties. I doubt it is even around today, after all the abuse Mahindra officials put it through. It was pretty funny alright, with a detachable hardtop made out of FRP.

Thanks for the info, man!! Too bad, for the idea dosent sound all that bad, maybe the execution wasnt quite up to the mark.

Any idea if any were sold?? This would make a good example for whenever a book called 'forgotten Indian cars' is written (other suspects being the Padmini safari and Standard Gazelle etc etc).

Hmm. I was always under the impression that that yellow jeep was a quadro. Thanks for clarifying that too.

It would be very useful if someone has a magazine containing an article about the quadro (If an example was ever tested, and Im not sure any were), or a brochure.

Hey GTO, cummon man now dont tell me you dont remember that place where the boutique was..Did you not use to take your vehicle for servicing to Milestone at Parel, where this boutique was.And this website was earlier known as www.mahindra-quadro.com which later got changed to www.designercars.com.
