Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

It appears that the changes are to the exteriors (mostly) & minor updates in the interiors. following id ACI's report on the same:

SCOOP! Updated Spark by end-2012 - News - Autocar India

The mechanicals of the car will be more or less the same. Seems more of an exercise to revive the flogging sales by catching public attention with the new Spark adverts.

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Thanks Cardeep

But the report says
Quote:
Updates include re-profiled front and rear bumpers, new fog lamps, a honeycomb grille, a bigger Chevy bow-tie emblem, and new outside rear-view mirrors with integrated turn-lights. The interiors too will get a minor tweak. However, we expect the mechanicals to remain untouched.
This is in sharp contrast to what Adi has spotted.

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Sometimes you just have to accept a product has run its course or that the food has gone stale and any amount of garnishing is not going to work. Spark has the tag of rebranded/restyled Matiz already haunting it and i am afraid Chevrolet are wasting their time and effort. Its the same with Santro which despite being a competitive car and a hugely successful product is failing massively to create an impression among buyers. Why is it that Manufacturers think that by doing doing nip and tuck job will always work. I can at-least understand mid-life refurbishment but Spark will simply not work with a nip and tuck job simply because it itself is not an all new product but a car based on age old Matiz platform.

Maruti have pulled the plug on 800 and will be launching its replacement by diwali. New Alto is also around development and most probably will be here by next year. Swift is an all new product now as is Dzire and Wagon-R. Ritz is not too old. They have launched an all new product in Ertiga and also Eeco not so long ago. People used to chide Maruti for only flogging a dead horse but look at how aggressive they have been off late. You won't get any where near Maruti by standing still and all other manufacturers must take a note that Maruti is not standing still despite being the leader by a country mile.

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Wouldn't it be better if they bring on the M250 spark rather than slap a dual port Chevy Grill on the existing one(M200)?

The M250:

If not, then the probability of electric or diesel spark is high.
Cosmetic upgrades more often than not are accompanied by headlamp, tail lamps, other lamps changes. This requires vehicles to undergo homologation procedures and visits to ARAI.

A slew of festive season launches that are lined up in the coming week might push GM India to reschedule the Spark facelift launch, in order to prevent being overshadowed by the Alto 800 which will debut on Oct 16th.

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Dear Rush, Rehaan, Suhaas, Ajmat and other Team BHP friends,

I just want to put out a slight clarification, and add some more value to this thread.

The Spark facelift was supposed to be launched today, but then GM India (through sources I learn) has postponed it by a few days as they would be overshadowed by bigger and more significant launches.

We saw the Spark facelift at the plant (Suhaas was there with me, when we saw it in the factory yard during the Sail media drive) and some friends from the online fraternity caught a glimpse of it covered near the production line.

We have done one story on this a few days ago, updating readers that the Spark facelift will not launch on the 15th. I'm also attaching a pic revealing the facelift.

GM India is also starting to discuss on the next generation Spark internally. The Beat is the global replacement for the Spark, but here in India, GM has to think up a replacement, say along the lines of the Alto 800 and Eon, which are new bodies on older platforms. Here's what Lowell Paddock, GM India's MD told me at the Sail media drive last week when asked about the long term plan for Spark -

Quote:
We are going through a lot of discussion right now to understand what is the best thing to do with Spark in long term. The Spark is known for its overall quality impression as well as the driving impression, it's got lot of interior roominess.

So it's a vehicle which still has a lot of freshness to it, what we need to do is make it more relevant to the customers with an updated appearance. What we do in the long term in terms of do we need to make changes to the chassis or the powertrain or other attributes, that's still work in progress.
We also saw a camouflaged Chevy Beat in the factory yard, with the front fascia camouflaged. This update must be for early 2013, considering the Beat was launched a day before Auto Expo 2010.

Best Regards,
Shrawan Raja

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Chevrolet website updated with a teaser of new Spark. IAB reports launch on 25th October.

Quote:
Forget what the above graphic claims, there’s nothing all new about the quirky Spark. She gets new color options, revised front and rear fascias, re-shaded interior and a newly designed instrument cluster that’s jotted down notes from the Beat’s design handbook.

The headlights sport revised detailing, there’s chrome garnish on the grille and around the fog lights while the bumpers are dual tone and sport rear reflectors for better safety at night.
The Chevrolet Spark facelift will come in six body colors – Sandrift Grey, Linen Beige, Caviar Black, Velvet Red, Misty Lake and Summit White.
A re-upholstered interior draws inspiration from Indian culture. The door pad redesign attempts to take it upmarket.

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Zigwheels report on facelifted Spark:

http://www.zigwheels.com/upcoming-la...october/14393/

Quote:
The refreshed model for 2012 would sport newer headlights, a honeycomb mesh grille, fog lamps with chrome inserts, restyled dual-tone front and rear bumpers and a bigger Chevy logo. Word is that the new car does resemble an electric version of the hatch, called the e Spark that we laid eyes on earlier this year at the 2012 Auto Expo.

Interiors would go through a bit of an overhaul as well, with improved fit and finish to better suit its years ahead. However, powering the prettier looking Spark would be the same 1.0-litre petrol and 1.0-litre LPG engines that continue to power the current model.

So, only cosmetic changes on the Beat too, like on the Spark? Is there anything that we expect to be worth waiting for in the new Beat?

Re: Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage

Thanks Shrawan, for sharing with us that picture of the new Spark.

In my opinion, it would have been ideal to discontinue the Spark and slash the price of the Beat so that GM has some room to accommodate the Sail and position it as a mid-level hatchback and bang in Ford Figo territory.

But looks like GM has other plans for the Spark here in India.

Just like the new Captiva, I don't think the corporate Chevy-split-grille works on the Spark. It does give it a fresher look, but it looks like the grille is at war with the rest of the design-cues and subtle lines on the car.

The Beat update won't be much to speak of either. The grille has gotten longer and some of the bits in the interior don't look as tacky as they are at the moment, as per the pictures revealed so far.
