Spotted this Chevy Spark today on Paud Road, Pune

Scoop: Chevrolet Spark spotted with camouflage-sparkcoveredwm.jpg

Had spotted another covered spark near Holkar brige, Pune around a week or two back but I wasn't able to click photos. Luckily this time I was standstill in heavy traffic. Unfortunately couldn't click more photographs.

Would this be a diesel version (just speculating)?

Nice Scoop. There are no talk of a full facelift so may be the diesel version or maybe a very very mild cosmetic facelift. The innova also had the rear portion covered while doing the tests. All other non-facelift areas were exposed.

If its a diesel i am wondering why cover the hatch. Couple of cellophane tapes on the badge would have sufficed

Good catch Adi.

If you were so close to the car, were you able to hear any diesel clatter?

Not sure what Chevy has up its sleeves with the odd camouflage of the Spark.

Stupid question. How come the camouflage hides the number plates? I have usually seen other camouflaged car pics with the number plates visible, typically a TR red plate

Adi_k, Thanks for sharing the scoop with us. I feel this is not a Diesel version but just a cosmetic refresh. Spark has a very tight engine bay, even the existing Petrol engine is a squeeze, fitting in a Diesel will be a tough task.

I know the Diesel engine in Beat was redesigned by chopping off a cylinder from the Multijet engine to make it smaller but even that engine might be too big for Spark's tiny engine bay.

It just stuck me, can the Spark be on its way to ARAI? It's hardly a couple of kms away from where I spotted it.

In recent times, I have spotted multiple chevy cars around the same area but I was not able to click photographs as it was in the night (low light) and I was driving. Remember spotting a sedan around a month back but no evidence to prove :D

Could it be the electric version of the Spark?

I have heard GM planning to launch an electric motor of some sorts for the Spark sometime back. Just asking, if this could be the production model of that EV?

If that's not a real exhaust it could be the e-spark or the electric spark.

Maharashtra has just waived off road tax for battery powered cars and this could have provided a jump start to GM to relook this segment.

It may be the 800cc version of Spark which was once supposed to be launched here. GM always pitches the Spark against the Alto but I think it is in the class of Wagon r and Santro. The high FE of 800cc motor would make good case of itself against the alto and now the Eon.

I dont see GM putting diesel in Spark as it is positioned at price sensitive audience and putting diesel will raise the price tag.

Most definitely facelift. Source:

Autocar Professional

Might be the mildly refreshed variant of existing Spark !!
But the real question is that all the bits which can be Refreshed in a facelift are exposed(Tail-lamps, Bumper) & what can't be easily changed(sheet metal changes, bodylines) in a mild variant facelift are covered(Tailgate).

Something, really different is cooking in GM's stable.

Visible Exhaust & Tail-pipe indicates that this car is powered by a conventional fuels)Petrol, Diesel, LPG or CNG) only.

My windows were rolled up and there was too much traffic around to listen anything

I have seen Spark with camouflage on roads near ARAI in last few weeks, never had camera with me. Sedan that you would have spotted would be Chevy Sail sedan & other would be Chevy Sail hatchback.

Does a vehicle need to undergo testing at ARAI if its just a cosmetic upgrade?

If not, then the probability of electric or diesel spark is high.

It looks like a facelift version to me. There is a good chance that they might just put in a 800cc engine and bring the price down as well. Will be interesting to see when it comes out.
I dont think it is the electric version though as the car looks like it has a regular exhaust system in place.
