I have noticed that Santro has undergone some changes recently. Mostly cosmetic but i am curious to know what has changed under the hood.
1. Is the gearbox of new Santro (GL/GLS) is "rod type" compared to cable type shift of the old eRLX ?
2. Is the any engine tuning changes which effect driveability of new Santro when compared with eRLX ?
3. Any changes in the AC unit?
The eRLX had better torque at lower RPM (10.1Kgm@2800) and the new Santro has peak torque at slightly higher RPM (9.8Kgm@3,000). Though this would not translate into a drastic difference, but considering there could be other changes in the ECU maps owing to BS3 to BS4 transformation, the driveablity could be affected.
I love driving my Dad's eRLX and one of the reason I went for the i10 1.1 iRDE having the same engine block, but am disappointed with the drive characteristics. It is certainly tuned differently primarily for emission requirements, I guess.
So, eRLX would certainly be better IMO. Not sure about the other two points you noted.
Thanks for that info bejoy.
I noticed they have removed the eRLX badging from the rear too.
Any idea on when these engine changes were made? The 2008 onwards model had GL(x) badging, but i remember it had eRLX too.
So when exactly did the Santro get de-tuned ?

BS4 came into effect from April 2010, and they dropped the eRLX from here.
eRLX debuted in 2005.
Here is a thread on eRLX:
