re: Petrol price hiked by Rs. 7.50. EDIT 1st March 2013 : Up by Rs. 1.4

Why don't the state governments reduce the VAT? Like Goa?

Can't they see its the common man who bears the brunt? Two-wheelers and most of the A and B segment cars run on petrol.

This is absolutely crazy! 7.50 is the steepest petrol price hike. I think this will be the end of UPA :|

My car's every Km is more valuable now! I drive a Palio petrol yay!!

7.50 hike will most likely trigger strikes / bandhs / hartals and the price will be eventually dropped to 5.5 or so and that might be agenda of oil companies.

All states cant afford to reduce or remove VAT or State Tax, as they are the major source of revenue to govt's treasure.

As said, India's 1/3rd imports are only Crude. They had to raise these fuel price as Govt wants the fiscal deficit to come down as early as possible.

There is tax to be added too, so the price in Bangalore should be around Rs.83. I'm going to buy a volvo monthly pass next month and take the bus daily.

Look at it as a 12% increase in your monthly fuel bill. Diesel thankfully seems to be spared for now at least.

So fuel is still subsidised for us right? I wonder if they can compensate on petrol prices by removing the subsidy on cooking gas, diesel and kerosene even?

Whoa, I am going mad. Forget car fight, I have to worry about my FZ.
My idea of keeping costs down:
1 day - Work from home
1 day - travel by Atal Sarige
1 day - sick leave
1 day - Hop onto colleague's bike
1 day - Beg for drop on the highway

The common man is pushed to the verge of being denied this simple pleasures that helps him take on the challenges of the day. The pleasure of driving has gotten dearer.

Heavy rush at fuel pumps already. Guess the stock will be run out soon. What will be the Bangalore price from tomorrow? 85?

Just a matter of time before the 'alternate fuel', 'green cars', 'cycling to office', discussion kicks off...

Wonderful, just what we all wanted. I'm totally loving being an aam aadmi in this country.

I had initially planned on tanking up the Ikon yesterday, but postponed it by a day. Now, i will have to buy at the new price.

I am sure other fuels too will get their share of the hike soon.

The reason they are not raising price for subsidized fuel(Diesel,Cooking Gas and Kerosene) is because the GOVT dont want the inflation to shoot up drastically.Petrol is considered as a luxury item in this Country, and thats its been increased so much.

But seriously, my thinking is that if you buy a vehicle you should be able to pay for its fuel.Govt shouldn't pay for it.

Very few country follow this subsidized fuel policy.

Sorry but on an aside - talks are that the 7.50 rupees hike includes a 2.50 rupees "Mamta" rollback included.

Nobody is bothered about middle class people in India it seems. I am appalled at the callousness shown towards a bloke who has to run a family on such a tight leash. Why should the the regular middle class bloke pay for the over ambitious programs aimed only at enhancing vote share ? Every time the govt wants to fund its propaganda programs it is the middle class bloke's pockets that they dip in. It is the biggest sin in india to be born middle class cos nobdy gives a damn about him.
