I am yet to see a modern diesel, whether its in the liva, or indica, or safari, or xylo, or swift.... which does not emit black smoke when under hard acceration from lowish rpms |

| ![]() Where are they sourcing the engine from? They sure don't have an engine in their lineup that will give them excise benefits. |

| ![]() wow, very nice scoop kpzen. This is sooner than expected and I surely did not expect a diesel to come with brio first. However, I am sure market will accept this whole heartedly. This is going to make brio an even hotter hatch. |

| ![]() The City is the flagship product from Honda, Civic sales will shoot up at least a bit if there was a diesel option; then why is Brio the first to get a diesel? I sure hope City, Jazz and Brio don't share the same 1.2 diesel in case that is the one being tested here. If this indeed is a diesel being tested and bears a Honda engine, Honda seems to have been rather quick after their announcement of developing a diesel engine. | ![]() WOW, great scoop. When I was having a chat with a Honda dealer, he hinted they are expecting diesel models within a year. Even then I was skeptical about the 'one year'. Yes, they did develop a 1.6liter diesel engine but this, BRIO Diesel, I never expected this one coming before CIVIC and CITY diesel. Last edited by ecenandu : 25th May 2012 at 08:56. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Excellent scoop BUT I have a feeling they are going to plonk in the diesels throughout the range - city, brio, jazz. Civic and Accord will remain untouched. CRV is a no brainer - if they go ahead with a diesel it will live and if they sell it with petrol they may do single digits every month. By the way - the price hike in petrol has already led to discounts on the brio !!! |

Still reeling under the petrol hike hope tend to believe the BRIO being tested is a diesel though! Cheers! | |

| ![]() That is a great scoop. Honda must have really accelerated their diesel plans for India, as with the current petrol - diesel price skew, they will take a beating in the market. I remember Hormazd Sorabjee tweeting that the new Honda diesels will be designed by ex-F1 engineers which should make them great to drive. Torquey Hondas coming up. (Btw, you sure it was a diesel and not a badly abused factory Brio? ![]() |

I hope the information from the video is wrong. However, I doubt it because Honda would extract as much publicity if there was a diesel mill on test on a BRIO, or for that matter, on any of their car. |

| ![]() Super scoop that one. If Honda indeed plans to begin their diesel portfolio with the Brio, the Jazz should get the same engine. That would be one heck of a car with the legions of cabin space, modern design and a diesel heart. How they would manage to fit a diesel motor, turbo and intercooler in the small engine bay of Jazz will be a mystery. Won't be surprised if the Brio/Jazz would have a smallish 1.0 or 1.1L motor. The 1.6L diesel mill in the City and Civic will propel Honda back to the top of the sales chart if they get the pricing right. Interesting times ahead. A year is a long time, lets hope its sooner. Also if you notice the car in the video has badges but the one that KPzen spotted is devoid of all badges. They would never make it public that are launching a diesel engine. If they did it would hurt their current sales really badly. Why would I tell the public that I am launching a diesel model soon and forfeit sales of my bread and butter petrol models. It's like committing suicide. | |||
